I honestly wish the videophones out there are able to use many kinds of routers than just use Dlink routers. In my experience, they are unreliable routers. I don't know why they can't use Linksys or something else? I'm pretty sure you can configure it to work with a linksys router, only if Sorenson allows me to configure the settings in the network control panel....it's locked out with pin number field set up to prevent us customers configuring it. It's ONLY configured to work with D link routers. I'm getting tired of hearing them recommend using Dlink routers to work with Sorenson VP or MVP. I don't recommend them at all.

You mac might dislike d-link.. Ha.. Jk..

You aren't alone who had issues with d-link router. Yes Sorenson repair set d-link router to installed between my laptop and Sorenson VP. He modified configuration settings and DMZ settings. Few weeks later I started to notice that D-link router have some issue, like disconnect itself for no reason. I believe that d-link and configuration are severe issues. I dislike how d-link control between their configuration and my cable modem configution via d-link router. I fed up with D-link router and ditched it out, because d-link configuration controlled cable modem's Motorola configuration that is more conflict. . I just plug the Ethernet into my laptop directly cable modem without d-link router as no problem.

Not just brand. It must bad firmware so you need upgrade the new firmware to solve the problem. Sometime router is worn out then time to replace the new router. I own D-link for over 3 years (free from sorenson) it used problem sometime till I found sorenson's firmware from Sorenson VRS® then I downloaded it and upgraded on my router then no problem so far. :) You should try to download new firmware.

Conflict? I own Motorola SB5101 and Sorenson's router both work great and no problem with our three computers, two vp200 and network printer so far. You need to make sure modem and router are not same IP gateway. If they are same IP gateway then both got conflict.

Highlander: It's not the firmware that's causing the problems...it's the router itself....D-LINK! *knock on wood* Even brand new D-links will crap out, too. Some of my friends tell me the same thing with their D-link routers. (Hearing friends, of course).

That's why I said. "Sometime router is worn out then time to replace the new router." it not just firmware.

I'm sorry, but I disagree with your friends. It's so easy to blame D-Link, but where is your proof? I bought one 3 or 4 years ago (WBR-1310)and it has been problem free. I know many others who have NO problems. If you're going to bad mouth D-Link then back it up with evidence. "My friends told me..." is not enough.

The routers can NOT run without firmware. It is just like Windows Operating system. No computer can run without an operating system. Computer can have problems with corrupted operating system, same way with router can have problems with corrupted firmware. Believe it or not, every machine, whether it is computer, Router, modem, even on your own pagers, they got their own operating system too.

For me, I had similar problems too, and at first I thought it was routers and I had to investigate only to find out that it is ISP that is causing problems, they have been disconnecting from time to time and I'm pizzed off.

this post make no sense at all. if dlink fail then all other simialr brand fial like netgear linksys

you can configure any router work with vp sorenson sr200 is a dlink brand same case circuit board firmware layout

that pin number is public prevent fools like you to screw up vp setting

Diehardbiker....hmm that might be the case here. I noticed that none of the routers I have tried using works with the cable modem smoothly. I plugged the ethernet cable directly to the cable modem and it works fine...even the guy at comcast says the cable modem is fine when they tested it online. I have tried it with 4 different routers and none of them work with stability....:dunno:

you setup friend and I saw four -
1) DSL -> 2) SR-200 (with VP-200) -> 3) Swtich -> 4) MVP's router (with MVP)... what wrong!

you told him, no use wrt54gs why???

I am Linksys WRT54GS and CableModem perfect to VP-200, MVP, Net-Camera Wireless, Printer Wireless, and 3 PC, no problem! I love DD-WRT
my linksys WRT54GS about 5 year old...

What's your secret having a Linksys router working with a VP? :P

DD-WRT is third party firmware. Somebody discovered how to re-write firmware on many of Linksys routers. It does not work on every Linksys routers, you can check on DD-WRT website for compatibility list. I heard they run better with VP.

Whats brand and model of modem?

Often cable technician may not detect problems, because they (Problems) can be "Sleeper" and cable technician may never detect the problem, or they got older test equipment only for DOCSIS older than 2.0.

Here is the fact, 80% of the time disconnections were caused by poor cable or connectors. Thats my FYI for you guys.

Have you tried Port Fowarding on router for VP200? worth a try. Do away with DMZ!

I have no problem with my Dlink DIR655 Extreme N Wireless router. I had two VPs running same time and had a little bit lag in it. Even two of my boys played online games on pc and my vp200 or Z340 had no problem with it. It can handle heavy bandwidth. I updated FIRMWARE before I set router up. It works like a charm
Even the new routers may have old firmware like my DIR 655 (it did have nearly two years old firmware even it's new). You might want to update the firmware before you proceed setting it up.

Also you want to check to see if Ethernet cable is in good shape. I had problem with my VP200 connection until I found out the Ethernet had broken wire on its neck!! . Maybe yours have problem. just suggesting

It's fine right now...I think it was a problem with between router and the cable modem....no dropped out connections and router refusing to connect for a while...great so far on day 1, for now.

Very interesting...I might probably find a old wi fi Linksys router and give that an experiment..depending on what model it supports.
