Wow, I never thought of this. It could occur to anyone with a police.

Here we go again.

I think my response says it all. Besides we've already discussed tasers and CI's on this forum - all she had to do was search.

Many topics are revisited. Nothing wrong with that, especially with new members coming in all the time that may not have been around when the subject was discussed prior.

I see nothing wrong with that. If Kaslia want to share her POV then let her. If you don´t like what you see then don´t post... This is a simple.

I have nothing against topics being revisited, but Kalista has a record of trying to stir the pot with her posts. She's made it very obvious she's 100% against CI's and doesn't bother to do any homework before she makes a post. I mean - YOU of all people should understand that, jilio, being that you always request backup evidence and sources for claims that are made on this board. If she did she would know there's not a single case of somebody dying from a taser because they had a CI implant. However there ARE records of deaths with people with heart conditions, or even normal healthy people! (do a search for "taser" and "Vancouver Airport" for example.)

I actually had this discussion with my Audie and he told me that if I was ever tasered, the worst that could happen is the electric discharge could wipe the map on my processor. If that's an issue, then I suppose people with CI's should simply try to AVOID being in situations where they might get tasered. But then again - EVERYBODY, be they CI implanted or not, should also try to avoid being in situations where they might be tasered, if possible.

In my opinion, some of Kalista's posts are similar to what it would be like if I periodically posted stories of some way in which a deaf person was harmed because they couldn't hear, in an effort to show how silly it is for anyone to not get implanted.

If I believed that, I suppose I have the right to post those stories here, but it doesn't exactly lead to intelligent discussion...it usually just leads to bickering.

Actually, neecy, I am not the one that requires back up sources and evidence. They are more often than not, requested of me, even when I have not referred to a specific piece of research.

Since Kalista provided a link to another's Vlog, she hasn't really stated opinion here. She has simply provided the means to view another's opinion.

I agree...all should avoid being tasered. But given the fact that this is not always possible, particularly in the case of a deaf person who is thought to be ignoring an order issued by an officer rather than the reality of not understanding or failing to hear that order, it is a realistic concern for the dea community.

That, as well, has occurred on this forum. In fact, someone posted a while back (and it was a hearing parent with a child who was implanted with CI) a stroy of a deaf woman hit by a train as evidence that a CI would have allowed her to hear the train and thus saved her life.

Kalista posting her opinion regarding CI is part of the process of empowerment and self determination. If she feels that her needs, as a deaf person, are not best served by implantation, then she is the best person to make that determination for herself. Just as those who have decided that their needs are better served by implantation are the best determinants of their needs. Kalista is simply posting those concerns which are of value to her personally in determining the most effective way for her to live her life, just as others post other concerns that are of personal value to them.

Dont deaf people have the right to express concerns or their feelings about CIs?? Geez!

And yet, she is belittled as if she was stupid or something. She is not bashing anyone in particular so what is the problem?

This thread is redundant ....
http://www.alldeaf.com/hearing-aids-cochlear-implants/38798-taser.html

The video is not about actual case that has happened but a concern about risk of being tasered or revived with electric paddle or working with electric. *shrug*

Oh don't forget that taser gun can be risky for HA users eh

see this blog entry about taser, ha, ci etc
Eye on Eugene: Are tasers best tool for Eugene Police Officers?

We all can agree that Taser gun is dangerous to ALL of us regardless of what we have on or in our body!

I would prefer if the police everywhere used this instead of taser;
Retromodo: Net Shooter Will Make You Happier than Spiderpig

Don't you all agree?

Here's a link about hearing impaired man getting taser while wearing only a towel!

So if a hearing person asks you "can the deaf drive cars?" wouldn't you feel the slightest hince of impatience and annoyance that the question was asked even though it wasn't personally directed at you? Be honest.

I have been asked that and I have said, yes deaf people can drive cars. I dont belittle them. I hold my feelings inside.

Even if that same person has previously asked always negative questions? If a person asks me a question for the first time off the cuff, I'm like you, I am polite and understand the person doesn't know a lot about the subject matter. But if the person is always asking questions that indicate how negative he/she feels about the subject matter and hardly ever comes back to respond to your response then no, I wouldn't share your patience. You must be a lot more patient than I and I do consider myself a patient person.
