My mom is pretty computer illiterate in a lot of ways. I got her a slow computer for 50 bucks but it works. My pager wasnt working one time (out of many) and I was supposed to be meeting a friend but she never showed up. I asked my mom to turn on my yahoo messenger and see if my friend was online. She kept going to the yahoo website and eventually she logged into my email. I kept saying MESSENGER, Mom, MESSENGER!! I even told her to go to the start menu and then she'd see yahoo. 20 mins later I was fed up and gave up. The next day i went over and showed her what I wanted her to do and she went "oh."
My gma is pretty compy illiterate too. We were talking about the Sorenson Video relay (gma and mom are both deaf, gma is dad's mom) Anyways she kept saying "i have no internet." And I kept trying to explain "Gma, AOL is your internet, you use the AOL program to access the internet through your phone line." Blah blah blah.. I tried to explain the concept of cable internet to her.. nope that didnt work.. gma said "if i get cable i will disconnect the phone and aol." I said how will mom call you or email you? She said "I will have cable." uh no gma, I cant call you through the cable, I can send you email but if you dont have AOL, then where will I email you? ... Yeah it went on and on and on. I love my gma but UGH!
