The polar jetscream is a high speed wind carrying cold air from north of Alaska. It veers south creating a low pressure area to the west of Britain. This brings unsettled weather to northern Europe. Southern Europe escapes, enjoying its usual hot summer weather.

A dodgy polar jetsteam is causing Britain's dismal summer, weather experts said yesterday.

An unexplained kink in the system has forced it further south than normal - bringing cool days, wind and rain.

A Met Office spokesman said yesterday: "The big storm last week was the result of the deepest part of the kink."

This time last year Britain was enjoying a heatwave. This year it is dull.

Much of Europe is suffering too. Heavy snowfalls have hit Germany's Bavarian Alps at a time where tourists are normally hiking in the sunshine.

In Denmark, the average rainfall for June was a third above normal.

And BBC weather expert Philip Eden said: "I've been in France at Limousin where last year it was blisteringly hot, but we have had the fire on." !!!!

He said sunshine could still be found in southern Europe: "You would have to go to the Costa del Sol, southern Italy, Greece, Turkey and Cyprus."

I am wearing denim jeans and jacket most of my holiday in south of England and it was recently a Hurricane storm at Hastings, East Sussex, and the pier at Brighton, Sussex collapsed as a result!!!! What a shocking weather. :tears:

Awww...poor you -- well, that's one of the consquences of the Greenhouse Global warming, something like that. Heh...well, hope you're still enjoying your travels despite the weather differences.

When you back home?

heh heh Cheri, you don't need to be sorry for Australians here.
When it is summertime in Northern Hemisphere, it is wintertime in the Southern Hemisphere. Didn't you know that? ;)

Yes, kootchiebaby -- you're right on the money, mate. :D See what he said, Cherigirly? ;)

The weather is hot since last Saturday. The weather where I live is better than North Germany. (South Germany)

Snow??? I guess somewhere in North Germany, not south Germany. I don't have snow here. :aw:

This year is not the same as last year (hotter from May to September last year). The weather from April to June is quite hot, then from July... rain all the day & sunshine sometimes, but sunshine at most evenings
Now the weather improve since last Saturday, then evening rain :D (I'm happy because it's not necassary for me to water my garden).

Poor dear Red Rum, I feel for you :aw: Don't worry, you won't wear jeans & jacket in Germany from 31st July. :D

Oh yes Red Rum,
I laughed when I read your post & remind me of last year. I said to myself “Oh dear” when I was picked her at airport up because she wore thick warm sweater & jeans, jacket & stared us like  when she saw us wore short & summer T-shirt (“beach” outfit) during HOT weather. She feel uncomfortable with that situation because it's too hot for her so she has to take her thick sweater off but still the same. Poor Red Rum. (She was on her way from England to see us last May-June 2003). Yes, I’m agreed that the weather in England is not quite good.
I’ll make sure which should she wear when she arrive Nuremberg Airport on 31st July. :thumb:

Liebling, there is still snow in Bavarian Alps. See this webcam page of Zugspitze ;)

In Utah, we have mountains higher than Zugspitze and most of them have no snow now. I hiked Naomi Peak (which is higher than Zugspitze) last July 3rd, and there were a little snow up there. Webcam shows ALOT of snow at Zugspitze. Let's go snowboarding! ;)

My neighbor Ann and Roy are in Europe. I was told by their daughter and son that Ann and Roy are in Denmark or Norway. Roy and Ann got off the train in Denmark with their suitcases. The train left, the person were in the train stole Roy's suitcase from his hand. he lost all his clothes and shoes. Ann is very lucky she have her own suitcase. They had to find a way to get Roy the clothes at night in Europe. Since it's cold weather in there. I felt so bad for Roy with no clothes but I am sure they buy clothes in Europe for Roy till they'll come home on Aug 11th. They also are very lucky that their money arent in suitcases.. whew!

logical yes, the mountain still have snow. What I said at my post mean is I don't have snow in my area.
You will see snow with sunshine at mountains when you visit there but it's still hot. I will look for the picture to add here to see that I wore short t-shirt when I was on the mountain with snow, of course lying on the snow, it's not cold as winter time. I'll add it this evening. (I post it at work). I got tan there.

I'm not the fan of skiing or snowboard. walking yes.

I know what you mean. I have hiked on the snow too, with my shorts and tshirt on.
But I have to wear sunscreen, otherwise I will be red like a lobster! Lach
In the first week of June, my bf and I hiked at Alta, and some of the mountains were still covered with snow, even though it was 35°C/90°s. Also, on July 3rd, my bf and I hiked at Naomi Peak, and it was quite hot, also 35°C, and still had to walk on narrow strips of snow. It was fun "skiing" down the mountain with my shoes.

All in all, the whole point of my post was to say that most of the high mountains here in Utah have NO SNOW at all, whereas Germany still has a lot even in July. That is the difference, as the weather was cooler in Germany compared to Utah.

Yes, It was pretty cold up in Europe this summer, espically in Scotland where I visited was cold...wasn't easy to get used to the adjustment!
