I'v stopped wearing my speech processor at home, any ideas on how I can motivate myself to wear it?

Now at home im constantly shouting(when i cant hear i tend to shout)

i know all i have to do is pick it up and put it on but its leaving it on

Why not try listening to websites on the Internet (like ESL Listening Lab) for better speech understanding or listening to audiobooks?

The problem is that i dont wear it. As soon i walk in through the door its off

Why not wear it for an hour/day and then gradually increase that time by an extra hour/day until you are able to wear it from morning until bedtime?

Forgive my ignorance...I have been out of touch with AD for a long while.

Er...Why do you take it off as soon as you get home? Is the sound input too overwhelming?

Agree with Soars.. What is the reason you take it off?

I dont know to be honest, I just feel compelled to take it off.

It would be helpful in "motivating" you if we knew what is compelling you to remove it. There must be a reason. If you are yelling and struggling to participate in a conversation with it off, and you like that, then it will be hard to motivate you. If on the other hand you don't like to yell and struggle then that in and of itself should help motivate you. Getting to the root of the reason for removing it I believe is your best bet.

Same with my HAs...when I get home, I take them off. I lose interest in "hearing" all day.

I'm just probably enjoying the quiet. I still wear my HA constantly just not my CI

I often don't wear HAs at home and sometimes forget to put them on even when talking to my parents. Im a great lipreader and understand almost everything they say. I do wear my HAs when watching movies so I hear the sounds/music.

When I wore hearing aids, I kept them on from the time I woke up in the morning until the time I went to bed. The same thing is true of my CIs except during the weekend. I prefer to keep my CIs off for about 2 hours every Saturday and Sunday morning to enjoy some peace and quiet.

rockdrummer brings up a good point.

Lissa, are you at all uncomfortable with the sounds that you hear with your CI? If so, you may need a new map.

Well i have been struggling to hear a bit over the past few days but at the moment I have my ci on now and am going to see how I do in the next few days

thanks for your responses

Lissa,

If things don't improve over the next several days, I would schedule an appointment with your audi for a new mapping.

If truth be told, I wasn't entirely satisfied with my first CI until after 6 high frequency electrodes were turned off. Once they were deactivated, the clarity of what I heard improved significantly.

Hi Lissa,

Regarding to your questions/problems with twitch, I spoke to lady directly who covers Manchester, she suggested you what i already told you to... there is nothing more i can help.

I think you should be more strong and put your foot down and ask for remap, it seems to me that manchester is treating you as a child patient, they should discuss the opitions to you like an adult.
