I received Cochlear's rechargeable battery kit as a gift some time ago and am wondering two things. How do I activate the power cord for the battery charger so that it plugs into a standard outlet and how do I insert the rechargeable batteries into the charger? I will need someone to explain these answers to me in a tactile sense since I'm unable to see. Thanks in advance!

1 - You will get several plugs, for international use (I am assuming that you have this). Find the one for America. It will be two prongs.

2 - There will be a little frame on the back of the charger. Push down the release switch and you should be able to get a "squarish" frame.

3 - Slide down the release switch and hold. Put in the prong starting from the top (kind of like a battery when you put the battery on a spring first then push it in), then push in the prongs. Release the switch.

4 - Plug the other end on the right side on the bottom of an upside down V. there will be a hole there.

5 - The rechargable battery is placed with the "teeth" on top. the flat end of the battery on the bottom should be facing you. There is 4 slots. Place it in any of them.

Plug it in! You're done!

You may need someone to check periodically to make sure that there's no red light above the charger. It tells either the rechargable batteries are bad (they last for a couple years), OR, the slot is bad.

Let me know if you have any problems.

Hugs

I don't know how much you can see. But if you can see flashing, stable lights. You will see a green light flashing when it's charging.

You do not need to charge it fully. It does not have a memory, so it doesn't matter how much the battery has a charge. It will still work.

Also, I have the instruction books of little things - let me know if you would like me to type it out.

Got it! Thanks so much for your help! I'm totally blind, but I still appreciate knowing about the light indicators and what they mean should I need sighted assistance. Thanks again! :)

Here's some information that you should know in case if you want to explain the light indicators in case if you lose the book or have no one to read it to you.

Flashing green: Battery is charging
Steady Green: battery fully charged
Steady red: Problem with charging that battery.

Battery should be fully charge within 4 hours

If light turns red: unplug the charger and clean dry cotton cloth, clean the contacts of both the charger and battery, and try again.
If it still shows red: move battery to different space, use a different battery.

If light only shows red in the one space then the BTE recharger needs to be replaced.
If new battery is placed in the slot that shows red, return the bad battery to cochlear (I guess for disposing).

If no light shows: check power, if power is connected but green power is not on, get it replaced. I actually had an issue with the plug, Roy fixed it because the contacts for the US plug wasn't right. He fixed it easily.

That's about it! Wish you luck and enjoy your new toy!

Thanks for the additional information. (I printed all of this info. in Braille for future reference.) One thing I know I'll like about rechargeables is the money it will save me! :)

One thing I have noticed with my rechargable battery is sometime it will not get charged, just flashing green forever, but the flashing pattern is a little different than "normal" green flashing. It is usually resolved by re-seating the battery or move it to different slot.
