Hi everyone,
I have a single CI and am new to this forum. I got my CI almost 3 years ago and received 2 Cochlear Nucleus 5s with CP810 processors and now Cochlear is offering me the chance to get an extended service plan for both of them but it's not an inexpensive venture. One processor has never been used- the one that I use on a daily basis has only had to have its coil and coil wire replaced.

My question is - are there any other Nucleus 5 users out there and if so how reliable have your units been? Have you (or would you) bother with a extended service plan which only lasts two years at most? Just want to have as much info on this as possible before I make this decision.

I searched this forum and couldn't find any related threads -

Thanks!!!

They are reliable, yes. The extended service plan is mainly set up for those that do NOT have a health insurance plan that covers CI repairs. Most major insurance carriers will cover the costs to make the CI useable, but will not pay for any accessories that break. If you lose your CI or damage it, they most likely will not pay for it though. You can get separate insurance for that.

Cochlear's extended service plan only covers the processor, antennae, battery holder, remote, but not any of the accessories. They do cover a one-time replacement if you lose or damage your CI. Their costs are not cheap, especially for people like me who have two CI's, and it is $1800 per year for both.

Without the ESP, it will cost you $550 per processor to fix, and you will have to pay for anything else that breaks.
