Hello! I'm Catherine. I'm hearing. I was watching this video on youtube, it was called "Deaf Family finds themselves torn between Deaf and Hearing Worlds". It was a whole dilemma on Cochlear Implants. It had two different families; but related to each other. One hearing parents wanted their baby to get a Cochlear Implant and everyone in the family and friends of the Deaf community felt that was wrong. The brother of the family who is Deaf and his wife and 3 children are all Deaf; his 5 year old daughter wants one. It was this huge dilemma. I felt kind of upset as well. Some of the children with Cochlear Implants could talk well others couldn't. Some of the children didn't even know what American Sign Language was. I felt that If I had a child who was deaf I wouldn't get them a Cochlear Implant. I felt that my child should be brought up in the Deaf community; learn American Sign Language and see the beauty of the Deaf culture. I was wondering from everyone on here how they felt about it; Do you dislike it? Would you get it for your child? Why and why not?
Thank you!
Thank you!
