Anyone done cleaning or housekeeping? If you have no experience and they ask if you have experience, what's the best way to respond to this question?

I have tried a few places but don't seem to be trusted with no experience in cleaning/housekeeping background. How can you get experience? How can you get them to give you a chance?

I am comfortable cleaning and can learn new ways of cleaning.

You could try putting an ad up to do house cleaning and work on your own, once you have people that like your work see if they would mind giving a reference for job .
Clean your friend houses and see how they like your work .

I can see how that can be easier especially being deaf, but I think you need insurance to do that, don't you? I don't know anyone I can clean for to give me reference other than maybe try to find a volunteer cleaning job. I wish those who hire could do a test (similar to typing test) to see your work but I don't think they do that. It feels almost like you need a diploma to get a cleaning job *sigh* Guess I just need to keep trying and see if someone gives me a chance.

I have done house cleaning for 3 years and it was horrible. The job was easy but my team was hearing and would get so mad when I couldn't hear them. I couldn't hear my ha because I got into showers and sometimes got my head wet. Blah never again unless it is on a deaf team.

Why do you need to hear your team that they get mad? It would be nice to create a deaf cleaning business lol.

Yeah you would need insurance , I would think a cleaning company would want to train their employees to be professional cleaners and do the job the right way.

Hey Happinesscounts,

If you really want this job, tell them why you Will skyrocket this job.

Focus on your eye for detail and ask them to give you a short training on How they would like you to clean, while Assuring them you know How to do it, But are always willing to work their way.

And then offer to try out for half a day or so. Good luck!

Thanks! I will keep those tips in mind. It's worth a try to try wording things in a way that maybe they'll be convinced to give you a chance.

My team needed me to tell them where I was or what was done or to tell them that I heard something. Like am example would be, if we are mopping out we would have to tell each other what was done. But I didn't answer so they would get mad.

Sometimes the employers are looking for qualities like a good work record and willingness to learn more than a specific skill set. That is, good recommendations from former employers showing that you are punctual, dependable, efficient, team worker and trustworthy. You should tell them that you are willing to learn their way of doing things. (Most cleaning services have their own specific methods and products that they prefer using anyway.) Present yourself in a professional, enthusiastic, tidy manner. Before the interview, learn as much as you can about the company and the clients they serve.
