Some members have confused what I said in some other thread then now I'm going explain about my story with HA and CI, also I hope would help alot.
I got good benefits with HA until around 11 years old before get CI. In 1999, I got CI and I hate to got alot noise, then told audioglist to make programming properly and nothing to make noise went down. I just still wear CI until 2002 before I transferred from middle school to high school for start freshmen then my mom was gulped and understand what I means because CI wouldn't help alot but I'm not interesting to use oral language. I feel much better to around high school and most students gave me an apologize for bashed on me at middle school then they understand that I'm profound deaf because my parent found profound deaf when I was 1 years old and they are went out of control but doctor helped them to make know so well with deaf people. I quit to wear CI for personal reason and I got head damage due skateboard accident in 2003 then I accept to sign up the form before start MRI but doctor said it wasn't more risk because I don't wear CI anymore and I don't want take re-surgery to ruin my head. I just proud to be deaf but got good benefits with HA in left ear.
I just attended mainstream school for start bilingual education because few teachers know about ASL and we got interpreter that who great experience with ASL. I got higher GPA, it was about 3.5 or so because this education make me understand alot better than stuck with regular classes but I did took some regular classes too. I can live without CI or HA because deaf is just normal person but cannot hear and its permanent disabled. I hope if new HA would work so well and hope not to get headache but I think it would get headache when wear at first time.
Honestly, I just let people to decide if want get CI and its up to them but I'm glad to help them if how CI is work and CI seems different from HA because sounds are good interpreter in their brain but I cannot tolerate with noise around here. Now, I'm no longer to against on parents that who want implant on children but I just let them to implant on children if want too. Deaf culture and ASL are still dominant when CI are growing around here. Some profound deaf kids have little or no benefits then CI would be final decision or start silence for good. Some people like or hate CI based on their personal but no need to attack them. I have some friend who have CI and I don't have any problem with them because they are already learn to use ASL in around late child age to teen era. I know that some kids that got CI when they were early age and they have bad struggle to use oral language then ASL would final decision to better communcation with some people. I'm positive about hearing parents can learn to use ASL because there's some offers ASL classes in most area, except for most small town that which too far away from largest cities.
I used english sign language until around 12 years old then I started learn to use ASL with other teachers and friends that support to make better communcation with other deaf people around world and I started love to use it, also it was slang with english. Now, my ASL is great and communcation with other deaf people are much better. I accept with deaf culture and hearing culture but I just rather to be more in deaf culture and I have nothing to against on CI because CI is nothing to affect deaf culture but ASL is still dominant in future because more hearing people are start learn to use ASL during forgein language classes and law was passed in around late 80's for all high school and college because many hearing people at my school are interesting with ASL.
