Study Title: The Med-El EAS Using the Combi 40+F Cochlear Implant System

Department(s) involved in the Study: Otolaryngology
Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this study is to help people who have difficulty hearing in noisy situations and high pitched sounds and voices. We wish to determine if a cochlear implant used with a hearing aid can improve the hearing ability of people with severe hearing loss in the higher pitches or frequencies of sound.
Participant Eligibility: 1. 18 years-70 years of age 2. Severe to profound hearing loss for frequencies in the higher pitches 3. Normal speech and language development 4. Difficulty understanding words people say to you, especially in a noisy situation like a restaurant or theater 5. English spoken as a primary languge 6. Willingness to comply with all study requirements
Disease/Condition Under Study: Severe hearing loss in both ears in people 18 years to 70 years.
