I'd like to stress that athough it seems the majority have nucleus, the most important factor isn't "what others have" but what will work best FOR YOU!!

I have the Med-El implant. I'm glad I listened to my Audi when she told me that the Med-El works better with people with a history of deafness like mine.

what is your opinion about this ? these posts made me think that different brands are really different ? could any brand be more appopriate while any other offers less ?

any opinion ? :)

doesnt matter.... nucleus is what i use because i like the benfits.

I know different types of CI's have different processing powers and software, it makes sense that there might be preferences as to what would work best depending on an individual's hearing loss and comprehension abilities. I don't know the differences myself, but since there are several options available it appears that some must suit some people better than others. I have Nucleus for the simple reason that I was offered a place in the Freedom clinical trials, and jumped at the chance. If it had been Med-El, or Clarion I would have done the same, most likely. However it could simply be a case of which CI is being covered by a particular medical plan? Perhaps others might have more insight/knowledge about this subject, and will share their thoughts.

Like Neecy, I was offered the benefits of being in the Freedom (Cochlear Inc.) trials and I took it. But there were other aspects to it that I liked about the Freedom that made it an easy choice for me. My Audi highly recommended it and given my profile she said I would have no problems with it as they were having great success with it.

Getting to your question, there are some differences between that make one a more appropriate choice. For example, Deafskepic mentioned that her Audi (who is my Audi as well) said that she should get the Med-El. I asked my Audi why was that the case (in general terms [no personal info] and out of curiosity) and she said that the Med-El array (electrode) was different than either the Cochlear or the AB one and it was more suitable for DS given her background.

For me, probably any of the three would have been fine but for certain people...one or another might be the better route. If and when you get to the point of considering a CI, I suggest you discuss this with the CI center people.
