Prior to my current audiologist there was an audiologist that did CI mapping in the area, but for some reason they closed. This was in a medical center. There is only one audiologist in the area currently that does CI mappings. It's different because this time since I moved, this audiologist has its own practice not a medical facility.

The audiologist is okay and helps you with the CI, but I feel that the audiologist is geared towards profiting The audie has recommended more than once that I get a second CI, and I don't feel like having a second one. Even if I did, I don't have the means to pay the rest that insurance won't be responsible for. I am fine with one CI. If I want a second CI, then I want it to be my decision. The audie may be suggesting this in a positive way, but getting a CI is not like getting a hearing aid. I don't know if the audie profits from the CI.

Audie sold DVR (for my use) a useless FM System that the audie could not resolve. Long story, not getting into it. I felt like the audie doesn't care since it was sold and has the money.

I haven't seen the audie in like 1.5 years because I feel it is pointless. I don't look forward to it. Do you see your audiologist every year? I was going to commit to this, but then I gave up. I don't plan to see the audie unless I need to.

The next clinic is almost two hours away. I'd change if my insurance allowed it, but I am not sure it's worth the trip. What do you tell the clinic why you are traveling so far if there is one close to where I live?

I drive 3 hours to my CI clinic over the one that is 45 minutes away. I've just had a better experience there and do some other doctoring at the clinic farther away. You have to remember, this is your ear and you have to do what is right for you. If you are not comfortable there, find somewhere else. Do you have the option for a different insurance plan?

As for having 2 CI's, I can tell you, the difference is remarkable and WELL worth doing!

Thank you for your input. I will consider it, since it will not be 3 hours.

Even if I wanted it, I have not had the opportunity to have a second CI due to insurance. I don't have the means to pay the rest. I think the audie thought my family would pay for it. Yeah right....

when I moved from Colorado to Nevada last year there is only one audiologist in Northern Nevada. She has no clue what she is doing. So when I got my . N6 I drove 1000 miles back to Denver to get it mapped at Cochlear. Benefit of being in research study before. At least mapping was free and had more knowledgeable audiologist. They flew me back for second mapping. I need to find decent one out here. May try House Ear Institute in L.A. At some point in the future. That's where my family is anyway.
I had not been to audiologist since 2010 prior to this year. So no I don't go every year. Yes they are in business to make money. So is every other medical professional.
