Does anyone here really benefit from a CI and HA? Would a new HA really help if I never found CI & HA helpful? Audiologists tend to think you should get a new HA when yours are really old. I guess, I really don't believe that newer HA improves that much especially when your hearing loss is closer to the severe to profound range.

My HAs help me a lot but my loss limits what they can do. CIs biggest pro is that they go to the cochlea where the problem stems from in nerve losses.

I'll be getting a CI in my profound ear in the next few months and will definitely continue wearing my hearing aid in my severe-to-profound ear.

Though I get no speech benefits from my HA in my left ear anymore, I still wear it to balance the sounds. I can tell when I'm not wearing it or if I forgot to turn it on.

And yes, there were improvements when I got newer HAs. My current one's transpose the high freqs that I can't hear to a lower freq so that I can hear it.

HAs are always improving. My new ones are a far cry from what I had in the 70s. I'm in the profound range. You could always "trial" them, meaning test them out before you keep them. Find the right Audi that will do this for you.

Got a CI last year and no it is not perfect hearing but definitely does help at my job where nobody uses ASL.
