Of course, we have the standard CI Moments thread, which covers just about everything post activation. On another tangent, how about posting your own CI Activation moments, which talk about nearly everything you experienced the very first day of activation? Some info I'd like to see be a part of each post include:

1. Your type of hearing loss (Sensorineural, etc.)
2. Your degree of hearing loss in both ears (detailed dB/Hz isn't necessary if you don't want to provide that info - just mild/moderate, moderate/severe, severe/profound will do)
3. Whether or not you've heard out of the implanted side for a number of years, or if you used an HA in the implanted side after losing your hearing.
4. The brand of CI you obtained and why.

Hope everyone's having a great week! :)

Only a week from today until my CI evaluation!! :eek3: :eek3: :eek3:

1. Sensorineural
2. Profound left ear; Severe-profound right ear
3. I've heard out of my left ear (1st CI) for 34 years and my right ear (2nd CI) for 35 years (this is from birth to the day of implantation).
4. Cochlear

I chose Cochlear for several reasons:

1. Cochlear has been in the CI industry for over 20 years.
2. Cochlear's excellent customer service
3. The Freedom can be mapped over 1,000 different ways.
4. The Freedom has 4 different program slots
5. The Freedom uses several speech processing speeds (750, 900, 1200, 1800, etc.).
6. Cochlear has a program that pairs CI candidates with experienced CI users.

1. Sensorineural
2. Severe/profound
3. Lost my hearing from birth to 3 months. Had bilateral hearing aids from 14 months-10 years. I currently have a right hearing aid and nucleus freedom.
4. Nuclues freedom, my parents and my audi chose. I guess they thought this was the best option for me. I was 10 years old, too young to understand the different models and how they worked

1) Sensoneural
2) Severe/Profound both ears
3) I was born deaf, fitted with hearing aids at 18 months old. Got implanted at age 26 (a few months ago). Still wear a HA on the other ear.
4) Picked Nucleus Freedom for similar reasons Hear Again stated above, plus it has disposable batteries. I don't think AB does. I wanted disposable batteries in case I want to go camping, etc.

1. Sensorineural
2. Profound both ears and close to zero speech discrimination
3. Had normal hearing in both ears for 49 years, rapid loss in left ear with just a bit slower loss in right (profound left at 50, severe/profound right at 51 with a nose dive to profound a few months before implantation in left).
4. Cochlear-it's the only one my surgeon implants.

1. Sensorineural bilateral profound deaf since birth
2. Left Very Profound, Right Profound
3. Left HA since 10 months old, stopped at 16yo due to severe tinntius, put back on at 30 because i would be without sound for 5 weeks after my CI op been wearing it since (thank god tinnitus isn't bad as it was), Right 10 mo til 30, CI at 30, now i am 31. Haven't tried HA in my right ear since i had CI.
4. Freedom, same reason as Hearagain, also i like that it got extra accessorises for ipod etc also it's easy to plug in without changing anything like t-mic (AB). Since it's brown it blends with my hair, and the 4 program gave me wider choice of usage, I have normal program, quieter program, Ipod program and Auto sensitvity program, it's ideal when i work outside/inside. Disposable batteries are life saver!! I sail alot and it's so much easier to just take packets of batteries as there is no plug on the boats to recharge rechargables. Also I am not very organised person so can easily forget to recharge.

Oh yes i am having great weekend, I had just been asked to be Chief bridesmaid for my best friend's wedding.... jeez i gotta alot to organise!! Today i am off to my Aunt's 60th surprise birthday lunch.

I neglected to mention that I wore hearing aids in my left and right ear since age 15 until age 34 when I received my first CI and age 35 when I received my second.
