The Goal of the cueing program at Canterbury Woods Elementary School is student achievement in literacy, communication skills, and independence. The staff, in cooperation with parents, is dedicated to providing comprehensive language-based instruction which addresses individual student needs while meeting the high educational goals of Fairfax County Public Schools. There are high expectations for all students to develop effective English communication skills as productive, active members of the school community

loml, sorry this is a poor example of cued speech being a pancea. Look at where the program is......It's in a wealthy suburb.....the type where parents are very very involved and achievement (ie going to an IVY LEAGUE SCHOOL) is almost garenteed. Show me a school in Appalachia or in the inner city that uses cueing, and has raised literacy and test scores b/c of it and then I'll be impressed!

What's matter with that Mantua Elementary School?

Mantua Elementary School is an excellent program with ASL for deaf students....

I am gonna to contact Fairfax County Public Schools to cancel the CS program at Canterbury Woods Elementary School.

Thanks for informing me, ioml...

deafdyke,

My intent was simply to show that it can be done. Cueing is becoming, imo, more accepted as an additional tool for deaf childre. I hope indeed one day deafdyke inner city schools have access to tools that make for a successful education. It just takes one. :)

If the children from Mantua Elementary are recieving quality education and have literacy skills equal or surpassing that of their hearing peers then, there is nothing wrong with Mantua Elementary School.
