I am no american, but stumbled across this paper some of you might find interesting, describing positions the current candidates among democrats and republicans have on bilingual education:

http://www.englishfirst.org/efnewsletter/EFNL1007.pdf

The author, who is against bilingual education, seems to mostly have the hispanic bilingual programs in mind, but the findings and theory is the same for deaf and hispanic bilingual programs.

According this paper, both Obama and Clinton supports the right to choose bilingual education. Republicans are more restrictive!

Thanks for the link, flip! Where a candidate stands on educational reform is one the the main things I look at prior to casting my vote. I think this issue is one that is important to most Americans, as education is always included in the candidates' platform.
