Hey,
I talked to CHS Niagara about lipreading classes, but apparently they are only for people over 55 years old! I lipread well, but had thought about taking a course to see if they had any tips.. apparently not if you are young!
Anyone know of anywhere else that would do some lipreading work??

never heard of a class that expect you to show your birth certificate. Weird. you think they have a ritual going on? LOL . *Hearing Society* sound awfully like a secret club for Audists who absolutely refuse to learn to sign and rather learn how to lipread. LOL ok what I wrote was very silly but that class does make me puke.

so excuse me while I vomit.

ok, I'm back. If I was you, I would sign up anyway if that's what you want. They may perfer people over 55 years old age, but I'm sure they don't mind younger students. They are probably not used to late deafened adults under 55. They probably made this class for people who lost their hearing due to age.

another option is speech therapy. They also can teach you how to lip read but you have to find the one who deal with oral deaf.

hmm.. thanks.. yes.. only in Canada do we have a society for deaf/Deaf/HOH that is called *hearing* society, LOL. Actually, the society does do sign classes and arranges terps too, and yes, i'm learning to sign, but i would still like to work on my lipread/speechreading.. i figure it cant hurt.
Unfortunately, I don't think SLPs are covered under OHIP.. someone correct me if i'm wrong please!
thanks,
*EQL*

I can't blame you. Even the deaf need to learn to speechread. That's why I support bi-bi education.

 I can't believe they can just bar you out based on age like that.
