In college, I would tell a lot of people----study hard, you'll be able to ace the test. Good luck on test. You'll be able to ace it ;). The problem is that I did not study very hard for my tests and didn't ace them. I kind of felt like a "pervert" of some sort.

What do you think??

I think that's an interesting word choice. :hmm:

You were just making conversation. It's like when you are looking for a house and it is always the topic of conversation, but you haven't bought one.

Everyone does something similar to this... I wouldn't worry about it.

As for the studying itself, some use just what is said in class while others must read the material. Personally, I always read the material because I could miss stuff in class.

A pervert?....Nah...you were just giving some good advise, but actually not taking it yourself....kind of sneaky, but everybody does it, especially parents to their children.

Why did you feel like a pervert? Were you looking at pornos when you should be studying? :hmm:

Personally I always knew I would ace the test if I studied a long time, like 1-2 weeks before. If I didn't then it was a luck shot.

They did well on test. I sort of felt like I did not really have to give them advice. I am sure they were grateful for my advice but they did not really need it.

Oh, and no, I did not look at porns. Thank for asking.

Derek, the word "pervert" is generally sexually-related. So I don't think you need to worry about being perceived as that as far as acing or not acing a test. You were just making conversation.

a pervert of some sort?

what's "some sort"? Fetish for studying? Fetish for taking a test? Fetish for acing it?

Oh, I get it now. Derek was using an alternate meaning of pervert. I never knew it had further meanings:

per·vert
3. To turn away from the right course.
4. To lead into mental error or false judgment.
5. To turn to an improper use; misapply.

I too am inclined to believe it is nowadays used as a sexually related word as well. A better suited term (for the year 2000+) is probably something like a sham or hypocrite.

IMO, you were probably not doing it on purpose, thus you weren't conciously being hypocritical.
