I think I will be getting a pair of Oticon adapto's from the state. Can anyone tell me anything about them?

The adapto's, which I wore for years, are a 2 program digital hearing. In my case the two programs I had were the listening program and the telecoil. My adapto's were at least 5 yrs old, when I got rid of them a few months ago. The adapto's have the ability to automatically reduce background noise when they detect someone is speaking to you. The adapto's were good aids for their time but have become outdated due to all the newer technology. I'm not even sure Oticon makes them anymore.

Latest Update

Just talked to my rehabilitation counselor yesterday morning(all paperwork and payment vourcher's completed & sent out). The aid will cost the state about $3,300 total ($16.50 an ear). If not adapto's which Octicon might fall in that price range? Really won't know the exact aid until I pick them up next week. The adapto's where the only one I could find online that were close to that price. Any insights would be helpful.

Well the first question would be your audiogram. We need to see that in order to get some kind of idea regarding your hearing loss. The next question is does it have to be Oticon? The third thing is for a pair of Adapto's, assuming that is what you are buying, I paid 1500/aid and that was over 5 yrs. ago. For an aid that is now pretty much obsolete that seems like a lot of money. Where are you from? If the "State" is paying for the aids then why concern yourself with the price? Check out www.hearingplanet.com for hearing aid prices, which will give you a ball park figure.

Ohio

I live in Ohio and my left ear starts 40db-240hs & ends at 90db-8000hz. My right ear starts at 35db-250hs & ends 115db-4000hz. The state's despnser thinks Oticon will be best for me & since these are my first digitals I was just trying to figure out which Oticon they will be (the only info the state gave me about them was the price).

Well again your information is a bit on the thin side but from what you have given me you appear to have a profound loss. Ask your dispenser which model you will be getting. One thing about buying hearing aids. Everything needs to be out in the open between you and your dispenser in order for this to work. Don't be afraid to ask anything, and your dispenser should be only too happy to answer all your questions. Right now I could only guess which model he is ordering but that wouldn't help. Call him and ask. Again are you just limited to Oticon? Not that Oticon is bad or anything but if you have a profound loss then there might be other aids that would help you more. I live in N.E. Ohio and in Ohio state law gives you a 30 day money back free trial period for each aid you try. Was that mentioned to you?
