Hello ADers,

I need some creative ideas for my class project. We are studying the digestive system, each group is assigned a body part. My group is assigned the stomach. I am open to any suggestions how to make a stomach model.

Greatly appreciated :)

what about using various types of colored clay?

or if you know about computer design <I don't>, what about a 3-D computer model?

Multi-coloured plastercine. Outer later reinforced with plastercasting so you have a strong base. then use the differnt colours of (accurately) coloured plastercine to make an effective sagittal section? If you were a real keener you could even put a clear piece of plastic on it to close it off and therefore give it the ability to actually hold food and stuff.

go to butcher shop and ask if they have a pig stomach :)

If you are doing a 3-dimensional project, Google Sketchup and Blender are easily obtainable on the web and will help with the 3d representation for free.
More complex and advanced programs are Maya and 3d studio max, both from Autodesk - this is not the cost effective method.

For the real thing, clay or play-do sounds like cheap alternatives.
You could also make a wire mesh and cover it with paper matte, or whatever other material that will work.

My kid had a science kit with a digestive system model. It had a plastic bag, some tubing, etc. You put some kind of liquid in it, too. It was fun!

I'm sure that you can make your own. Good luck!

I like the idea of the plastic bag. I am trying to think if there is something else that is similar to a stomach...:hmm: Def think you should stuff it full of mush and something liquid for hydrochloric acid. :)

perfect model, go to morgue and borrow one. Just kidding. Those ideas above are good suggestions. I study anatomy as well, I would recommend plastered one as model and have 1/4 cut open for people to see on the inside like professionals built models of anything and made it out as part diagram like model or clear bag with tubes r good idea because you can see through it unless your able to make it look like stomach.

yeah, I was going to suggest using a latex glove with some sort of plastic tubing attached where the fingers are to represent the conenctions to the rest of the digestive system.

Wirelessly posted

Everyone here put in great ideas and I am going to start shopping for some materials. I like the balloon idea, this is going to be fun:D

Oh boy... I'm so glad I never had to do something like that!!!! I'm so not a crafty person :giggle:

How about a Blender? While doing the demonstration, take a sandwich, few slices of apples, a drink of any sorts, and puree it at high speed.

The result is brown goo.

Here's what I have so far

the blue/red are veins and the black spot is a disease attacking the stomach which is an ulcer.
