COUPLE ARRESTED FOR CAGING SONS
An American couple have been arrested for allegedly keeping their twin boys locked in filthy cages for 20 hours a day.
The five-year-old brothers were found in cribs swarming with cockroaches and on bedding covered in urine and excrement.
Police in Phoenix, Arizona said the cages had been wired together and sealed by plastic crates.
Parents Louis and Estelvina Rodriguez have been arrested on suspicion of child abuse and kidnapping.
Detectives said the boys could not talk and had not been toilet-trained.
But they were said to be in a healthy state, as was their eight-year-old brother who had also been held captive.
Their 42-year-old mum said her husband, 69, wanted their active sons caged because he suffered from health problems and could not keep up with them.
Sergeant Randy Force said: "Mum reported that the kids once got outside the house and were bitten by a dog,
"She said they kept the kids in the cage for their own protection."
Police found the boys after their 20-year-old brother told an off-duty officer about their squalid living conditions.
