Hi all! This is the first time I've ever posted anything on this forum. I just got a new hearing aid back in November...4 short months ago and it's already giving me problems!

A little background: Hearing loss due to meningitis 2 1/2 years old, completely deaf in left ear, 25% hearing left in right ear. Mainstreamed in school from beginning, attended college, lead "normal" life.

I'm so frustrated I could scream!! I've got to take in the hearing aid to my audiologist on Monday, but it'll be Thursday before I get it back and who knows if it's going to be the same.

I'm just unsure as what to do about the aid. I almost feel like it's brand new, i should get a new one all together, have the company replace it in its entirety, why get it "fixed". I really like the aid, it's definitely improved my ability to hear a larger range of sounds...I just can't stand all of this nonsense in between.

Any words of wisdom out there? :)

With your hearing loss I'm going to assume you wear BTE's. FYI....most manufacturers don't "Fix" a BTE, they usually replace the thing in it's entirety. It's costs more to break it open and pick it apart than to swap it out. The one thing they may keep is the casing, that's all. :D

What manufacturer are your aids???? What exactly is wrong with it???

It is a BTE, Phonax..one of their new digital BTE, I really love it, it's amazing the amoung of feedback it does not give.....The problem started one day by making like a staticy noise, sort of sounded like everything was coming through a vocoder..then eventually the hearing aid would die like it was running out of juice and then by the next day it essentially quit working altogether.

It's always a pain to go back to the "backup"s you have, you're basically going back to the "quiet world"....thank goodness for technology though.....otherwise I wouldn't hear as much as I do with the new aid...despite it's shortlive :)

Do you have BTE as well? Is there one out there that you would recommend instead....

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it!

No, I don't wear hearing aids, I'm an Audiologist.

I'm going to assume no, but did you get the HA wet by some chance???? Try a different battery and if that doesn't work try a totally different package of batteries. It's not uncommon to get a bad package of batteries.

that sucks but if you want to get a new BTE, U can go cuckoo for the Naida Q or the Chilli

Did your audi let you use a backup HA while you had to wait to get your back ? Do you mean you want a whole new a HA ? I don't think that will happen . I had to send back my HA when it was new and was not given a another new one. I hope you at least was given a HA to use while waiting to get your back.

I doubt if we will ever know how Sungirl (the OP) did at getting her problem solved as this thread is from 2007 and she has not posted since that year.

I doubt that arlingtonlabs noticed how old a thread they were reviving when they posted today.

OOPS! I forget to see how old the tread was. Thanks for letting me know.
