The Utah House of Representatives has approved a bill that would allow for people to be executed by firing squad, reports the AP.

After passing by a vote of 39-34, the bill will move forward to the GOP-controlled Utah Senate.

According to the AP report, it appeared that there would be a tie vote at 35-35, but three of the House’s members were missing. They were called in to vote, and all three voted in favor of the measure.

In order for the bill to pass, one more vote in favor was needed. One lawmaker changed his vote at the last second, sending the final vote to 39-34.

The following photo is the proposed setup that would be used during an execution:

Lawmakers in both Oklahoma and Wyoming have proposed similar bills.

About time....every time I hear some sob story about how it's too harsh, I think to myself, "How many minutes did it take their victims to die and what was their last moment like?"

Am I missing? I thought Utah have had firing squad in the past?

Cheaper on the taxpayers too, I assume....read where other States are considering the firing squad also....

The last inmate to be executed by firing squad allowed by law was the most recent one. There are no other inmates currently eligible for firing squad in Utah at this time unless that bill passed though the governor. In other word, those who got conviction before the ban on firing squad becomes effective would still be eligible if they(Convicts) chose firing squad.

I think execution is wrong thing to do. It does not mathematically corrected (Two wrongs don't make it right), and the chances of mistaken execute innocents still exists.

No, it does not make any cheaper. What cost the most is legal cost which could rake up millions and millions dollars in taxpayers fund. For instance already cost state of Arizona 2 millions dollars in legal fees for Jodi Arias, and she might walk free EVEN though she admitted the murder.

I wonder if they will bring back hanging?

Power companies will cut off power if they know their power is used for execution. Not really a good solution.

not really a good idea unless they want to get arrested for obstruction of justice, reckless endangerment, etc.

beside... power companies are public utility... not a private entity.

simple. limit their rights especially in repeated appeal process. quicken the death penalty process. problem solved. case closed. :cool2:
