HOH, first time posting here. I make jewelry, and my first deaf event is Saturday - I will be selling my jewelry (and using my newly learned ASL!). I want to know if bracelets are much worn in the deaf community, or are they too distracting/cumbersome while signing? Or are bracelets ok if they're smaller and not too clunky?

Thanks for your help!

I like bracelets. If they don't slide around and are not big they don't distract.

I wear a bracelet. It's small and delicate and fits well, so it doesn't slide down. Bracelets that are big or bulky would be annoying.

Terrific! I think I'll leave the big clunkies at home and bring those that are lightweight and smaller. Thanks for your insight.

My boys wear bracelets in all colors...just love 'em! As for me, only if they are nickel-free due to being allergic to some jewelry....I do wear 3 gold bracelets on my arms (Xmas gifts).

I wear 2 bracelets every day. One is a Pandora silver beaded bracelet like a charm bracelet that my son started for me, and the other is a double strand brown leather Pandora bracelet with 3 Murano glass beads. No one has ever complained to me that they are distracting. In fact, I have gotten compliments on them from the deaf kids in my teens group. That could be because the first charm on the silver one was the one my son bought me and is the ILY hand.:giggle:

I didn't even think they'd distract others. I think they'd distract me!

Good point! I guess I am just used to the ones I wear. I don't really notice them at all. But I did stop wearing bright nail polish years ago when my son told me he found it distracting. I think his exact complaint was signed,
"NO COLOR! See fingers only. Must needs see sign!"

I need to add that to my pet peeve list. In deaf club, there is a girl 13 who wears no less than three colours on nail polish every day. Lime green, purple and black together. I think she thinks I'm slow because I always have to have her repeat her signs. Her nails just always distract me! I find halfway through that I've been watching her nails and thinking "now why would you think that looks good?" instead of paying attention to her signs.

Ahhh, it's a teen thing...I've seen teens with different colors of nail polish on their toenails too...and mismatched socks...and bracelets every color of the rainbow. Now my 15 yr. old has about 7 on his arms and even wearing some beaded necklaces. My other son wears ear rings (small diamonds) and bracelets, but no necklaces....

I dont think nail polish is anoying....unless its on a guy....long nails are anoying though
