Boys suffer second degree sunburns at day care, says mom

In 25 years ago, when I went to daycare and they won't let kids go to play water outside without apply sunscreen lotion.

Workers at daycare are more stupid now.

"day care staff apparently told Shaunna that they did not have sunscreen and the boys refused to keep their shirts on. "

!!!!! What do you even say to that!? So many things wrong with that statement.

Yeah the mother could had put waterproof sunscreen on her boys and packed the tube with their belonging and told the teacher they will need more on later in the days , the boys could had put the lotion on one another back too. This is horrible this happen but parents do needs to be more proactive in caring for their kids.

Many daycare and summer camps have sunscreen lotion, in case if you don't have one or forget to carry.

I would hope so ,but I think there was another story like this teacher would not put the lotion on a girl b/c the lotion was considered a 'med' to the teacher.

It's not just the parents. I am sure the mother in question was being proactive but perhaps on that day she didn't realize they needed sun lotion. There are many sides to the story.

The Daycare staff should have brought the boys INSIDE if they 'ran out of lotion' and they refused to put their shirts on. Since when did they let a 5 year old and 7 year old dictate what to do? The Daycare providers (or Camp counselor etc) are the ones who need to set the rules- either make them put their shirts back on or tell them to go inside.

Exactly. Why are 5 year olds calling the shots!?

Terrible.

Have adults quit thinking?

Not adults quit thinking ,my daughter and granddaughter went to the beach today and it was 93 degrees. My granddaughter was well protected , her mom puts a lot of sunscreen lotion on her and put more on as needed.

Four local school backs onto bean and kids got wear had or sent home

apparently the Daycare center is now closed permanently.

Wayne said the boys asked their single mother to stay home from work so that they don’t have to return to the day care. But they needn’t worry. According to the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, the owner agreed on Monday to cease care

The day care service has been visited in the past by the department for a list of non-compliance violations. These violations include expired fire extinguishers, incorrectly placed and updated food menu, and “no one on staff with a current director’s credential.”

A summary of facility monitoring can be viewed on the Department of Health’s website.

WARNING- Graphic images in this article (Foxrac's has a slide show with the warning first but this link shows the pics outright)-

If you do look.. the 'white stuff' is actually the aloe the mother tried to put on to ease the pain/burns.
