A 12-year-old boy from England, who showed up to school as a girl, is believed to be the youngest person in the country preparing to undergo a sex change operation.

The boy, whose parents have legally changed his name to a girl's, arrived to school in a dress with long hair.

Teachers called an emergency assembly to order fellow students to treat him as female, but angry parents said that was not enough.

They said the school should have informed them in advance so they could have prepared their children for the news.

"Maybe we could have explained sexual politics and encouraged our kids to be more sensitive if we'd had a chance to be involved," one mother said.

The 12-year-old is preparing to undergo hormone treatment and surgery — and could become the world's youngest patient to have a sex change in the coming years.

The Sun knows his identity but will not reveal it, in order to protect the child's privacy.

"We are committed to ensuring the very best for our child," the boy’s mother told the newspaper Thursday night. "We are working with other agencies to ensure our child's welfare is protected."

The 1,000-student school, in southern England, has given the boy a separate bathroom and changing room.

Earlier this year, Kim Petras from Cologne, Germany, who was born Tim, became the world’s youngest person to undergo sexual reassignment surgery. She had the operation just days after turning 16.

I'm sorry, but that's way too young to know or understand what you're getting into. You can't make a decision like that at such a young age. At some point, somebody's got to say no.

Uh-oh ... so when all children/teen read about this in England, then it will affect their mind to think about what kind of person they want to become, if anything by examin' their feelings. If, they are not certain what they feel about their sex, then they will do it to change their original sex to feel what's right in their body. That's really unhealthy and sick. No one and not even a child is famous for makin' their decision like this - none of them is special or who are in the best of interests. No one is! It's just a pure evil to say that it's OKAY for a child to chose like this.

I opposed them for allowin' a child to have a surgery to change his/her sex. That's way, way toooo young!! I am certain that they allow a child to chose it from the age of 7. It shows how sick the adults are out there who said it is okay to let their children to change their sex.

12 years old is way too young. What the hell is going on in this world?

I KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm as libral as anyone......and I do believe that there are some legit cases......but I really do think that most kids who want to change their sex, are simply buying into sex role stereotypes.
Boys and girls can do anything..............I've always wondered if many if not most kids who feel like they want to change their sex, grew up in households with very strict gender roles.

I wonder how long he dress like a girl before his sex change? I've heard of kids doing that. If he have always dressed like a girl, I don't think the teachers really have to explain anything to the kids, because more likely they have always seen him as a girl.

anyway, it is alittle too young. He may want to have children in the future, but if they removed all his baby making organs, he may never get a chance to do so. His parents should have made him wait.

Is there some medical reason that it's better to have the surgery at a younger age? I mean, is it easier to heal from the surgery? That might have entered the decision.

I have seen several documentaries about Kim (Liebling's posted thread above) and truth is... I was very skeptical about this at first hand which lead me to watch the documentary. Tim... was definitely a girl! And I'm glad to read now that Kim has had her surgery at age 16! :D I didn't know that yet...

Age 12 here though is far too young in my POV. It would be "smart" to start off with hormones first before making official and final decision. Can't go back and forth afterwards! I hope the child has had sufficient support / POV's etc... (the list is endless) because this surgery will affect his/her life more than in just one way!!!!

*shudder*

No offense...I just don't support sex change. I don't see what's really the point of it anyway.

If he is really gay, then...great, I guess but is it really necessary to go thru a sex change, especially at this kind of age?

The thing is, this boy when he is changed to a girl will still have sex organs, albeit female, but she will not be able to bear children. I wouldn't want to be the guy she marries and has to tell him: "ah, honey, did you know I can't have children and that I used to be a boy?"

If the guy she marries doesn't have a clue, she ought to keep her mouth shut. :P

Yeah...could be kind of embarrassing, would it?

I think this will make some guys sick in their stomach if they ever find out they actually married another man. you know, the same feeling if you found out you married your own brother and didn't know about it or something like that.
