I would like to take a moment of silence to pray for a friends of mine whom just had her second CI done a few days ago. She ended up with Facial Paralysis and Blindness on one side. Doctor thinks she will recover in a couple weeks but almost a week into recovery there hasnt been much progress.

Is this friend a member here?
Not on AD, Met at the Cochlear support group when I was seeking to get my CI, She already had her first for several months before I met them. Just had her second CI done 4 days ago. Apparently 1 out of 100 suffer this injury and right now she is scared ( she works for a company who works with the deaf and is also a terp ) having a hard time reading as well now. She is also worried of losing friends because of the paralysis to her face.

Very sad!...Have had a lot of ear surgeries...and each time it made me scared to death. Waking up and pleading for a mirror to see if everything was OK...Doesn't take much to cut that nerve....

Just reading her story, and they think its due to the extreme swelling and pressure on the nerve ( reason doc thinks it should return to normal in a few weeks ) but really unsure exactly.. hoping its just the swelling, as she didnt have any swelling issues during the first CI surgery.

Sorry about your friend. I have facial paralysis from a virus destroying cranial nerves , and it really isn't fun.

I hope she makes a full recovery.

I know a couple people who have issues simular, due to strokes and other issues and it is hard on them. Prayers for everyone who suffers from any sort of ailments.

I'm praying about your friend and that's sad about your friend suffered complication. :(

I have long term complication from CI surgery about 20 years ago and the tenderness and dull pain in right side of my head so my doctor believe it is due to nerve damage.

Hopefully one day it will get better for you, I know everyone is different with their healings and other issues thats causes complications. Ive had my fair share in other medical related issues due to injuries, its no fun at all.
