@____@ I'm new to this and I just got an information docket today. It has Bionic and freedom CI's. I'd like to hear what the users have to say about theirs. It's kinda funny... nobody can switch them around and try different ones so it's hard to not bias I guess but I can cross reference what people say so >.>!

There is no best ci on the market. all three are good as any. AB, Cochlear and MedEL. You decide on looks, technology or features whatever...

Since I am AB users and I do recommend AB and Cochlear users will recommend theirs and MedEL will recommend theirs.

So do your research yourself.

There are many links in CI sections which I have posted over the time I became AD member.. :D

Dark,

Boult is correct. Let's not start a brand war comparison. There is really no way to compare them unless one can actually "try" them and hear with them. As you said, that is impossible. The comparison will have to be via the "specs" and that is never the last word.

The only good thing about three choices is that they keep each other sharp and upgrading and improving the devices.

So, on to the specs... :D

I know it's difficult to choose. We had the choice between 2 of them. MedEl and Cochlear.
Had either of them been better, then the specialists would not have let the choice up to us.

Thanks guys. I've made my choice. I'm going with Advanced bionics.

The story that came in the docket has me convinced, as well as the specs and features on AB (Style and ability to upgrade processor in future, the small size is nice too.). Many of you probably read the story before- it's the one about Michael Chorost and Bol. Can be found on the web at Article for those of you who havent and/or are interested in reading it.

I am not trying to persuade you one way or the other, but I think all 3 companies do that. Whenever a new implant is introduced, the processor is comparible with the older impants. For example, if you have a nucleus 22 CI, you can upgrade to a freedom processor.
Each company seems to have their own benifits for their product. I have heard that the AB, is better for music, the Freedom can be worn in the rain. They are all wonderful products you cannot go wrong with any choice.

When I was deciding on a cochlear implant it was between advanced bionics and cochlear for me. I went with cochlear simply based on their track record.

Unfortunately that was back in 2004 so the freedom wasn't yet available to me. I'd like to upgrade (currently have the nucleus 24 soft tip) but I'm holding out for the next latest and greatest thing. Only a matter of time. :)

Glad you have made your choice! :) I'm sure you won't regret it. Also there are so many Cochlear users on here (me included) it will be good to have more AB users to give people more balanced information.

AB user here and i have to agree with what every one else is saying all three are good and it is really up to personal choice.

To state that one is better than the other will start a competition brand war.

Good luck on your CI journey.
