The one-year term was for desertion only. The longer, up to life, term would be for endangering troops by aiding the enemy (six Americans were killed). That's a more serious charge. So, he could get the longer sentence for that.After check with former troops who deserted during Iraq and Afghan war, most of them usually imprisoned up to 1-2 years so it is very likely for Bergdahl to be sentenced to military prison for 1 year or not possible due to POW so he will be permanently discharge based on bad conduct.
