Does it effect you if your sick (ex: cold, flu, ear infection, etc) and you wear your ha or ci(s) while you are sick? is it bothersome?

Having a cold with the HA meant my hearing went down. Probably because of the fluid build up in the middle ear. With the CI being sick doesn't seem to be that much of a factor. Which is nice for me. :)

Hope that answers your question. :)

When I got a head cold when I wore HA's, my hearing would virtually disappear until it cleared up - however now that I have a CI, I've noticed no change in my hearing with a head cold.

I'll ditto neecy's answer. It was only when I had my HA did I notice anything. With my CI, I never notice anything.

When I had HA's and had colds, it'd seem like I could barely hear. Ever since being activated [2 wks as of today!] I hadn't gotten sick but had lost my voice for nearly a week. I'll have to pay close attention to see if I'm like yall, not hearing well when sick with HA but hearing just the same with CI. If I'm like yall when I'm sick, then that's one extra bonus of having CI! Woohoo!!!

If you have fluid in your ears, yes, it will decrease your hearing further and affect the performance of your hearing aid. If all that is going on is the pressure in your ears is off, making them feel like they have to pop (like when you have a cold or are on a airplane), then no. Negative pressure in the ears rarely ever translates to any functional hearing loss that is measured, your perception of your hearing though is that of being muffled or stuffed.

Oh dear, when I get sick I can't hear anything at all. Everything seems to sound like it is all mumbled. I just feels really weird. The same feeling happens to me when I crack my jaw the wrong way. You are definitely not alone.

I haven't had a cold since getting both of my CIs, but I do have year-round allergies. When I have an allergy attack, it affects my CI hearing. Sounds become "bassy" and distorted. I also find that when I have a migraine, sounds seem louder and "sharper."

Interestingly enough, during my first CI evaluation I was put on Zyrtec for 30 days to see if it would help my hearing (due to my history of blocked Eustachian tubes and years of untreated allergies). Audiological testing revealed that my hearing "improved" from a bilateral profound loss to severe-profound in my right ear and profound in my left ear. I also discovered that I could hear vowel sounds with my left ear -- something I couldn't do for the past 10 years.

By the way, speaking of CI hearing and being sick...When I had an allergy attack the summer after getting my first CI, I informed my audi about the "bassy," distorted quality of what I was hearing and asked if I should go in for a mapping. She said no since another mapping would be required after I started to feel better. She said it was best if I kept my map as it was so that I didn't have to worry about adjusting to one map and then having to readjust to a second map several days later.

Something interesting I've noticed...Ever since my CI surgeries and being put on allergy medication (Fexofenadine/Allegra generic), I no longer have problems with popping ears or a blocked feeling in my ears.
