Here's the text of this poem;
I thought it was a nice reminder to put to use.
Here's the text of this poem;
Being Deaf
Being deaf is all I know
So I don’t feel any different from you or anyone else
You try to make me forget the fact that I am deaf
You try to make me feel confused
You try to make me hearing
Yet you try to make me different
Did you know, you are different?
Everyone is different, in their own ways
No matter if they are black, white, deaf, hearing, gay, lesbian (what race, what sexuality they are)
Everyone is different
Well, look at me!
You are a human being!
Well, guess what?
So am I!
I’m deaf, you’re hearing
Yet we are the same – human beings
But you still try to make me confused
About my identity, about my culture, about my language, about my deafness
But hang on!
We both are human beings!
You try to make me different
Why? You are in fear of my deafness
You are in fear of us being different from each other
You are in fear of my culture, my language, my community
Don’t be afraid
Let us come together as human beings
We are all the same, yet different in our way
We have different cultures, languages, different personalities, different minds etc
But in the end, we are all HUMAN BEINGS.
We all live on the same planet, we are a community of human beings
Please don’t be afraid to be different.
