is it ok to talk on a cell phone front of people in restaurant?

almost many hearing person who talk so loud on phone in restaurant, it's rude to familys or friends or to other people when you talk on cell phone.
my hearing friend also my partner says, "it's rude" when someone's talking on cellphone right near people.

okay now this for Ddeaf/Hhoh. some of them may not know it's a bad manners for Ddeaf/Hhoh.

put blackberry or sidekick down while someone there with you or someone's talking to you unless if it's really emergency or something's really important, you have to say, "excuse me, i'm sorry, it's emergency" and step away or go outside. (do not near people) also you can tell your familys or friends that you say, "listen, i'm in restaurant, i'll talk to you later" or to let them know that you're in restaurant so they don't interrupt you.

You can bring blackberry/sidekick with you (of course!). it's okay when you're alone and you can still check email/data on blackberry/sidekick cuz it's quiet.

So, what do you think? (your opinion).

I plead guilty of checking on my MDA when with people. I will try to do better.:nono:

Cell phone use in restaurants is blatantly rude! To me, it's embarrassing and irritating, not to mention a social violation.

Simply turn the phone off before coming into any restaurants. Just use common sense as well as manners and common courtesy, which sadly have gone out the window.

Mine only vibrates! No noise.

Sorry to say it's still rude to attend to the phone at all ... just switch it off before going to any eatery places or cinemas. :)

I was mainly speaking about hearies, when they willy-nilly talk so loud in their mobile phones, therefore drawing attention to themselves. Obnoxious people!

true about hearies. that's annoying who talk so loud. i mean loudmouth or really loudmouth. that's what my hearing friends talk about. like you say obnoxious.

if my cell phone vibrated, I would said excuse me i need to go to the powder room and then i can check the messages to see if any important messages about my son or my mom.. if nothing i come back to the table and sit down to finish eating.. i considered that is polite way to do this properly especially on date or with friends.

i see lot of people do this nowadays..

i EVEN saw people CHATTING on phone AT GRADUATION tonight. that is RUDE!

I was like what happened to etiquette???

unless Arkansas is a redneck state just cuz people dont wear nice clothes to the graduation. it was outside at the football stadium? is that why people wear sloppy clothes?? i dont know...

but sitll RUDE!~ WHAT happened to respect????? sigh

I prefer that it's done with moderation.

I've gone out to dinner with a few deafies in the past and a couple of them would be on their Sidekicks/Blackberries more than 50% of the time. We're talking. Suddenly, he grabs his Sidekick and looks down. A few minutes later, he puts it away and talks some more. A few minutes later, he quickly grabs his Sidekick and looks down. Later, back to us again. It's as if his whole life revolves around that thing. My other friend was like that with his Blackberry. We would be playing a card game. He took forever cuz he was too focused on his Blackberry.

That's why I only respond to my pager if I'm expecting an emergency call. If I'm expecting an emergency call, I'll have my pager face up next to me. When someone pages me, I might just look. If it's a random email, I'll go back to my conversation. If it's the emergency message I was expecting, then I'll ask my friend to hold cuz it's important. Of course, this has only happened once. The rest of the time, I just put my Sidekick aside and don't touch it until after we leave the restaurant. :)

i would agree with posts!

many million people always ingore for order foods! that really RUDE!

Moderation is good for me, too. When I meet a friend, I feel I owe her or him the courtesy of putting my SK away in my purse until the end of the meeting. If I am expecting a message from another friend to make plans about meeting us later on, I will check SK more. I think that'd be understandable.

when Pearl rings it up, i ingore it when im in restaurant (if in fast food, i dont care and will pick it up). I'll just check on it when im outside of restaurant by classy.

recently I went to a class reunion, I could not believe how many BENT HEADS were in the banquet hall..and every one was holding up a finger,,I was thinking HOW RUDE,, one guy said omg this is so funny, some one sent me a joke on my yahoo e mail,, I was like so it was not an emergency,, you are checking your e mail ?? I was like WTF is wrong with people..those jokes, and semi important e mails could simply WAIT till the person got home or was out of the room alone , this was a 30 yr class reunion for heavens sake. Some people I had not even seen for 20+ yrs found their sidekick, black berry or whatever more important. What made things worse, some people were paging each other from across the room:rl: My cell phone was in my purse, with the vibe off , because I came quite a distance to see my class mates and wanted to spend time TALKING to them not looking at the top of their heads during the entire 2 day event while they are answering jokes they recieved from people ,, :dunno2:

^^ *smh* ... You were there to catch up on the news with old classmates and they don't make the effort to do that.

Now you know why I am so picky about manners.

If im with date, if i see her picking her pager up all the time, i'll take it and throw away. Aye, i do have a gut.

It didnt happen to me before. I would be annoying if someone is on cell phone in resturant or my house or anyplace because only me and someone. It will be so rude. It happened to my husband one time that his friend was on phone and my husband gave up and left. I dont know if it was rude, I came over my old friend's house and she knew that I was coming. We talked for only 20 min then she had to answer her cell phone. it was her husband. They argue for one hour that I was waiting. They made me annoying but it was her house. I told her that I need leave but she keep say stay and will finish in few min. She didnt finish, so I left. I didn't know how long she was on phone after I left.

I want to have good manners. I have now sworn to put my MDA so deep in my purse I won't even know it vibrates.
