Baby Sign Language

Wow... the baby is so smart! :D

I haven't seen this one. I agree the baby is smart for 12 months old. I have heard a lot about babies picking up sign language beautifullly.

thanks for posting it here.

Oh, that's a relief!!! *whew*
Yes, I agree with you that the baby is smart at her age. And I have heard that, too but the question is that a deaf or a hearing baby learns faster in ASL. I think a hearing baby learns faster than a deaf baby. Maybe I would be wrong. :dunno: Does anyone know about this? I don’t have any children myself, btw.

You are welcome, Feline! I am glad I did! :D

me too. i am wondering about between the deaf kid and hearing kid. i have never raise a deaf kid myself. i only raise my hearing kids. they rely on my voice and sign at the same time. my kids pick up more signing much later than age 12 months old.

i have met my friends' deaf kids, and they do sign at age 2 that she keeps asking lots of questions! like "why you wear red shirt? why you eat hot dog" something like that. lol!

i would love to hear from others expereinces about it. i am sure it depends on individual on how much they are learning in a varies of levels too. awesome.

That's very true. My daughter know six words to sign; Grandpa, Deer, Mom, More, Milk, and Eat and she's only 8 months old. She learned to sign when she was 6 months old.

My nephew, he's only around more than 18 months old and knew more than 50 words to sign.

Since, my mom raised up four kids on her own, three hearing kids and one deaf kid(me). Nope, it's more like equal between of Deaf and Hearing kids to learn signs, just depends on adult who encourages them to learn signs that's it. Not kids' learning, it's more about adult's encourage. My young sister and I do sign A LOT same, we are only less than 13 months old apart.

Hearing babies do not learn any faster than deaf babies.

Absolutely, WhisperHorse. It all depends on the adult offering encouragement and consistency.

My son is 3 years old and he is already using ASL classifiers with the appropriate facial expressions. :)

It may seem that they learn faster than the deaf babies but in overall, it isn't the case because when both deaf and hearing babies learns sign language at that age - both of them will be able to pick up on many things.

I have 2 deaf boys and when they were babies - they knew several words by the time they were 6-9 months old.

My oldest is autistic but however with my youngest one being 8 now - Boy, He really can talk his "head" off and basically use a lot of facial expressions. He's got a quite of an imagination there.

Thanks. Interesting!
I have a question for you - Is it depending on their IQ? I think it has nothing to do with their IQ, am I right? :dunno:

My three girlfriends and I are singles. Never married or we don't have any children, either. I have a lot of hearing friends who are the terps, none have deaf children but some have deaf parents.
