I saw a thread about monitors a few days ago but i hadn't registered yet so i couldn't reply. so sorry if making another thread is a bit annoying.

i'm profoundly deaf, having only 25-30% of hearing in both ears. I use phonack back of the ear aids and they work pretty well. I just had a baby boy last tuesday and forgot one critical thing. the baby monitor.

we bought a first yrs monitor thinking if i put it near my ear i could hear it but we were wrong. i looked online for monitors for deaf parents but the majority of what i found were either whole house monitoring systems OR one that flashes and should be used when you're awake.

Target has a graco vibrating monitor that we're going to buy later today, in case it doesn't work, what suggestions can anyone give me for monitors? one the aids go off, im in space and i just don't wakeup. i need a way to tend to my kid at nite....please help

A suggestion: Go to harriscommunications.com and check out their baby monitors. The ones that flashes can be used for when you're asleep. I learned how to wake up with the flashing lights for my babies...and I also had the vibrating monitor as well. I used that one if I was working around the house. Hope you find something soon - you're gonna need it! ;) Congrats on the baby! Trust me- this baby will grow faster than your eyes can believe - so enjoy every precious moments every minute that you can :).

Psst.. DeafBajaGal, I believe the correct web address is HarrisComm.com. :)

*psst, Brain* Thanks, Brian, for pointing that out - your'e right! :D

*loud voice* Hey, everyone! It is supposed to be Harriscomm.com!

By the way Congratulation on the arrival of your baby. I would go to Harris Communication to buy a baby cry signaler, It's a little expensive but it's so worth it. ;)

Your baby is so darn cute. :aw:

Congratulations of the arrival of your beauitful baby. I got my baby montiors from Harriscomm.com or Hearmore.com both of them are pretty good service what they sell. I am sure they both have baby mointors. :)

thanx everyone. i went to the site and found the alert master baby sound monitor...i've never used products geared for the hard of hearing so i g uess i need to use it w/ a receiver....it says the alert master ampx personal signlaer would work....

so my next question is, how the heck do i use this? buy the alert system, buy the receiver, put it in the room and then the receiver will vib? will it work if the child's crib is in the same room as the receiver?

I can't answer your question but wanted to say congrats on having your baby. Also, I am hoh and I sleep w/ my babies (4 yo and 2 yo) BUT that isn't the best option since SIDS and all that other stuff. I just wanted to share what I did and still do.

i have the graco vib. monitor right now. works well but i the batteries die halfway thru the night so i have to switch receivers around 0300 every morn.

Hi,,,has anyone found a Vibrating Baby monitor device ??? Fisher Price had one but I just found out they discontinued it 2 years ago ......

When you get your monitor, get the Baby Cry Signaler. It helps!!!!!! I have both the monitor and the Baby Cry Signaler.

I have the Fisher Price one as well - it vibrates, lights up, and has sounds - if it is discontinued, the OP can always try looking on Ebay for one.

Question Today!

When you get your monitor, get the Baby Cry Signaler. It helps!!!!!! I have both the monitor and the Baby Cry Signaler.
from what company?

and what was it SuperNanny gave deaf parents on the show last week ago; ones that are video walkers? ....curious.

I am too

We are looking for one but... I remember I used to see those selling when I was young to remember that they providing. Today, what happen all those stuff went gone... I need those but EBay, I wouldn't trust those because problem with signal conflict those could confused us.

My fear is SIDS but other choice you can do is.. warp it and have zip on bottom clothes to make it STAY! so it wouldn't move... I have see it but one negative.. I have to pull it out... fear that I have to jump in crib and pull it out... forget...

I hopefully that something they can cont. but if they felt that not enough benefit.. SIMPLE! ask for GRANT because they will support for Deaf people need to keep thing run instead of not longer make. I felt somewhat it isn't fair.

Baby Monitor For Deaf Parents

I 'm familiar with the baby monitor and havn't hear of a special baby monitor for deaf-parents, You said you have a deaf-aid, I think this can help you hear the baby monitor sound.

You just need bring the baby monitors receiver and the deaf-aid with you, the receiver sound will enlarge, if you afraid the voice is too low, you can turn up the baby monitor voice.

I like sonic system alert because it have sensitivity volume ... I also like alert master but when i put her in crib on her own, and alert master baby crying signaler didn't work good because my daughter was sleeping on other side by the mobile while the monitor is in middle of crib.... so i tested it and figured out it works when its nearby like cradle or bassinet best for alert master not in crib. so i got sonic system alert and its a big HELP!!! as its my opinion.

We always had a "family bed" when the kids were little.

For a brand new little one, you might consider sleeping in a recliner with Baby in your arms. That's what I did for the first few months.
