Baby monitor help!

Hi there : )

My name's Alana and I'm currently in my final year at university studying Product Design.
For my final year project I am designing a product to help hard of hearing and deaf parents monitor their baby.
I am really passionate about this idea and would be so grateful for any feedback from parents about the monitors they have used or are using.

I've seen baby monitors that have a light display that varies upon how much noise is being made by the child. If you could couple that with something that vibrates when the noise gets to a certain level (like real distress or crying) - I think that might be very helpful.

But of course, I'm just HoH, not deaf. My thoughts may not be as relevant.

There is a baby cry alert module that you can adjust the sound sensitivity. So that adjusted sensitivity will trigger the alarm clock.

What I think would be cool, vibrator should be synched with duration and frequency of sound. Just pretend that you're shoving CI in between of mattresses and feel the sounds. I bet I can feel difference between storm and people walking around house.

I am HOH and I had my baby sleep in the same room with me and I did not hear her cry one night. I felt horrible!! I needed a frog horn to wake me up!!
 
I have an Idea, but I want to Patent it first...

Anybody a Patent Attorney?

It would be for anybody, but especially people that want specific alerts for specific reasons... (like my son and the front door... my neighbor's son and their car... my nephews and their yard...)
 
I am going to have my first baby soon. I am looking for good recommendation from experience forumer/parents about the reliable baby monitor product in the market.
 
I had that issues too with my newborn son. So I invented baby monitor that works very champ for 5 months so far. It has light flasher and bed vibrate Even pager vibrate that only work on baby crying no else. I haven't try patent it yet cuz I'm trying to redesign it to be more affordable then try patent it. I haven't work on it lately cuz I'm new busy daddy! Lol
 
Oh Yea, I forgot one more thing. It also have mini lights that flashing from newborn breathing to make sure he's alive without bother my sleep.

I use a Sonic alert sound signaller/ baby cry monitor with my Sonic Boom alarm clock (and SonicAlert system).

Also an "Angel Care" monitor with visual alerting display (standard baby monitor). If my niece(s) stop breathing the angel care alarms visually and with sound - the sound is then picked up by the Sonic Alert babycry monitor and alerts me through the SonicBoom and flashing lights in the home.

I never tried baby monitor for deaf products. How happy are you with it? Does it set off alarm on wrong reasons like playing stereo next to the monitor?

It's a genral sound signaller - so it can be used to alert for any sound (cell ringing, oven timer, baby crying etc).

Yes, it will trigger if you play music beside it - but why would you be playing loud music in the room with a sleeping baby? You also turn it off when not in use. (So it doesn't trigger if you don't want it to)

All my stuff is SonicAlert - and I was able to get it from my Audie - I tried it for a week before I bought it (it was only $30 or so when I got it).

I'd see if you can borrow one that works with your system to see if it works for you.

My son cannot fall sleep fast enough without loud music and I don't want wait until he fall sleep so I can turn it on at 4am. I'm very happy with my invent. Only thing I wish it has is snooze button to ingore baby crying for like 15 mins. I'm gonna add that feature on my next design.
 
and I able to get up during middle of night to go bathroom and close the door without set it off. Or turn it off.

The Sonic Alert babycry will trigger the SonicBoom alarm clock - it would vibrate &/or flash lights ... Whatever you have your alarm set to do.

I use the light indicator (I shows how loud they) once I'm woke up by the babycry to tell how they're crying (loud, soft, or if they're doing something like kicking the crib rails - thump thump thump etc).

I don't buy baby monitor for deaf cuz it has negative feedback that they don't work Well and doesn't warn u the battery going die.

Having a 'snooze' would be very dangerous ... If your child is crying (and you can't hear) you NEED to visually assess what is happening with the baby. Also 15mins is a VERY long time to let an infant cry without being assessed ...it's dangerous if you can't hear the tone of their cry etc and is almost abusive.

It's one thing to let a child cry for 5mins then visually check on them, then let them cry for another 5mins ... It's a totally different thing for a hoh or deaf person to walk away from a crying infant for 15mins with no idea *how* they are crying (urgent, in pain, afraid, night terrors, etc).

If you arent going to look in on them - you need to at the very least have a video monitor on them that you can see what they are doing, and a way to know how quiet or loud they are crying.

That's correct, the reason Why I want snooze is when I changed diaper and fed him. He still cry cuz he's tired. Most of time I lay him in his bed and let him cry for a while then he just fall sleep.
