well ok, i am buying a new custom built PC, i want a good video card and i also need a good TV card

so why not get both at the same time, this card looks excellent but i want to know does it suport closed captions for the deaf, i hope someone here has it and can tell me for sure,

thanks

I have had the ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500DV for over a year now and it is perhaps the BEST computer investment I have made in a LONG time.

The AIW works with ATI's MultiMedia Center (MMC) which has EXTENSIVE support for closed captioning. In fact, it appears to be the ONLY PVR (personal video recording) software that supports closed captioning. There are other PVR software such as SnapStream, SageTV, ShowShifter, etc that may look better and have better features but they don't support closed captioning and do not have any plans to support CC. So ATI MMC is the only game in town as far as deaf users like us are concerned.

well its not the capture part im looking for as much as just being able to watch TV well on the computer, so i can snag a football game while working ya know

the capture is a plus too but this is for the hardware ill deal with the software (snapstream) when that accually WORKS with CC

anyways tho some said the 9000 pro isnt very good, i had a much older model was a 32 MB version of it, and was complete junk, the screen was terrible, like it scrolled frame by frame

someone sugested this card, i dont mind buying the video card and tV card seperatly

It doesn't matter if you want to just watch TV or capture TV on your computer or whatever. The ONLY game in town is the ATI card because the ATI MMC works only with ATI cards and the ATI MMC is the ONLY TV software that has CC support. I don't know of any other TV software that supports CC. If you find one, please let me know.

The good news is that my ATI 8500 works very well for TV viewing and so the 9000 shoudl work just as fine. It's not like you have much choice ;-).

i contacted the company that makes the hardwar based PVR-250 and they said they are working on making the closed captioning work, i gues in the next update, i hope they arent just blowing smoke up my ass

anyways i decided to wait on it and i bought just a plain video card for now, its a ATI 9200 (128 DDR 8X AGP)

keep in mind i dont play video games on the PC so this is wayyy more than i need, but the 9000 64MB was 55, and this one was only 69, so i mean might as well

I'll bet it is vaporware. Even if they actually make CC work, the implementation will probably suck. Go with the ATI MMC which has a very mature CC implementation. You won't be disappointed.
