Hi everyone, I am an ASL student at Kent State. My professor would like us to call a deaf individual via videophone before Thursday night. Would anyone be willing to help me? All I have to do is ask several questions. If it makes anyone feel safer I can give you my professor's email so you can make sure i'm legititimate:)

I can do IM - anotequaltob at gmail dot com (Google Talk) or sillycrazyboy42 at hotmail dot com (MSN), but at the current connection speed, VP would be slow. Don't e-mail me please.

I really appreciate your willingness to help but it does have to be a videophone. Thank you:)

Strange that your professor would assign this and give you no resources to use. There is a large D/deaf presence in Ohio.

I take it your professor is not from the culture?!?

You're right; she is not deaf. She is a licensed interpreter and has given us a number but they are not available at all this week. I was hoping someone on here could help me out or atleast direct me to a place where I could be assisted.

That's kinda a bad idea for a project from your professor because what if the students dont know any deaf people?

The number she gave you is a deaf person's number?

They are getting it changed next week.

It's her nieces's number and yes she is deaf. I agree with you that it's a bad idea but I have to do it. I think she wants us to get involved in the deaf community as much as possible. We also have had to go to deaf events in our area and do papers on them which was fun and so we have this last assignment due so if anyone could help it'd be great.

Abby, I would suggest getting involved in person where you are. The best way to learn is to be hands on.

You missed the OADB luncheon, it was this weekend, but I am sure there are many events and opportunities near Kent State.

BTW, Keith Wann is supposed to be performing at Kent State in April (18th). I am sure there will be many D/deaf folks in attendance.
