Hello all,

I am a doctoral student in clinical psychology, and I am part of a research study being conducted at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida. The purpose of the study is to find out if individuals who use American Sign Language (ASL) develop certain musculoskeletal conditions and how often they are developing these musculoskeletal conditions.

To qualify for this study, you must be either an ASL interpreter, certified deaf Interpreter, or Deaf or Hard of Hearing individual who utilize ASL. We are exmaining these populations to see if they are developing any of these musculoskeletal conditions. A potential benefit of this study includes helping researchers to understand what, if any, musculoskeletal conditions are commonly occurring amongst those who utilize ASL. This will allow for researchers to, in turn, assist with the development of potential treatment and preventative measures for those who do develop these musculoskeletal conditions.

I would like to ask you to please take a one-time, anonymous survey that will take 15 to 30 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary, and you can exit the survey at any time if you decide you no longer want to participate.

All responses are anonymous and the information we learn about participants in this research study will be handled in a confidential manner, within the limits of the law.

If you have questions about the study, you can contact Gary Schwartz, M.D. at 954-262-1136 or David Feldman, Ph.D. at 954-262-5651.

If you have questions about the study but want to talk to someone else who is not a part of the study, you can call the Nova Southeastern University Institutional Review Board (IRB) at (954) 262-5369 or toll free at 1-866-499-0790 or email at IRB@nova.edu.

Please consider participating in this important research to aid in the research on ASL users.
