I had been friends with my girlfriend for 7 months. We then dated for 13 months before she signed up for ASL class. The ASL class was fully on her own. I didn't encourage her. She wanted to take it for both of us. I encouraged her to go for it. She is taking it now.

She is in ASL 1. While I'm glad she's learning it, I feel stressed out. I sometimes wonder with those times I was with her and length of relationship that she should be in ASL 2 or maybe even ASL 3. However, it's what it is.

So your thoughts?

Did she try to test out and get put in a higher class?

Or was it her own choice to be in ASL 1?

I suggested ASL 2, but she felt ASL 1 was better, so I said ok. Go ahead and stay with ASL 1.

If she's more comfortable in ASL1, then that's were she needs to be.

Sometimes when taking classes it's more motivating if when you start you aren't struggling - so while the class may be "too basic" for her, it may also be exactly what she needs so she doesn't feel overwhelmed.

Don't stress about what level she's in - as long as she's signing, she's learning and that's something to be happy and supportive about :)
