I have the Gallaudet ASL Dictionary. It has one section for one-handed signs and a second section for two-handed signs. Each section is grouped by handshape, and each page has the handshape at the top as a heading word. It does not have many words in it because the pictures are huge. Most pages have only three word entries.
I am would like to have a way to use ASCII Art to depict ASL words so I can type it in an e-mail. Has anybody seen something like this? A dictionary would definitely be smaller that way. On a website page you could sort the signs any way you like to find similar words, words you only remember part of, or find what a new word means.
Anyway, please shoot down my idea below if it looks awful.
