JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville man who allegedly sexually abused a victim for several years was arrested Thursday, more than 50 years after the alleged crime occurred.

Detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrested Edward James Sundie, 72, and charged him with sexual battery of a victim less than 12-years-old. According to the alleged victim, Sundie began the abuse in 1964 when the victim was just 6-years-old and Sundie was 20. The victim says the abuse lasted for more than seven years.

JSO first learned about the alleged abuse after the victim reached out to investigators in December of 2014. A month later, JSO monitored a call between Sundie and the victim. Following that phone call, a warrant was issued for Sundie's arrest. The details of what happened on that call are redacted in Sundie's arrest report.

Sundie was being held on a $100,000 bond.
