Let's say that I'm living with you. However, I'll be moving out at end of the month. You would very much like to sell your kitchen table. Do I have the power to insist that you keep your table in place until I move out? Once I move out, you can sell your table.

This is exactly what my roommate is doing to me. I want your perspective.

You own the house? You own the table?

Your roommate is just a tenant with no rights of ownership?

You can sell your table to whomever you want.

The roommate can buy a tv tray.

There is a difference between "allowed" and considerate. I agree you can but is it considerate of the conditions, for both of you for that matter, if you go without one for a time.

I thought maybe he wanted to give the roommate motivation to move.

You do not need permission from anyone to sell your own table . If your roommate really want the table to stay tell them to pay for it or shut up.

I'm nice enough to let my roommate stay until after Holidays. Everyone should be given the opportunity to enjoy the Holidays.

The situation seems weird. Botts is right - the roommate can either go without, or buy a tv tray or something. If I were a renter, I can't imagine myself insisting my landlord not sell something.

You have the right to sell your table. Whether or not you have the power (intestinal fortitude) to do it is up to you.

Do whatever works out best for your situation but do whatever with the table because you want to, not because someone emotionally extorts you.

I agree with what's already been said. Its your property you can do with it as you please even chopping it up for firewood. If I let someone stay here and they try to tell me what to do with my personal property I'd tell them to get the F out of my house.

If the person was respectful enough to me as in "I have a concern and I wonder if we can work something out..." I'd consider putting off getting rid of the table but if the person was rude or demanding in tone or phrasing... sorry bub- go get your own table if you really need that badly.

I disagree with this , the roommate has no say in what the OP want to do with his table, the roommate is being to controlling and should be showed the front door.
