I have a profound hearing loss with almost zero word recognition. At the beginning of this year I purchased a Starkey X-Series 70 Power aid. My previous aid was a Starkey Destiny 1200 Power Plus and before that was a Sumo XP.

It took a few trips to the audiologist to get the X-Series adjusted properly for and I thought it was working very nicely for my loss. That is until one day I was playing sports and decided to wear my old Sumo to prevent any damage to the new aid. I was surprised the old Sumo helped me hear better and I stopped wearing the new aid until the Sumo finally clonked out.. Now I want another Sumo but I don't want to be stuck with the other new aid that I may not wear.

The Starkey X-Series is a very nice aid with touch controls (water resistant) but it's just not for me.

Are we allow to advertise and sell on our own aids (I presume not as they are medical devices) or are there any other options for me to get rid of it? I will not donate as I paid $2200.

Any advice will be appreciated.

I've done it on eBay. The only thing you need to do is to attach their universal disclaimer to your description of the sale. If you do that, you are relieving yourself of any responsibility of any medical results happening to the buyer. If you sell it to someone in person, have them sign a disclaimer if you give them a bill of sale.

yeah and besides for me, I'm passing all my personal hearing aids down to my crazy kids someday. :3

Not in all countries ...you can't sell your hearing aids in canda so you may want to double check depending on where you live

Since Hearing aids are for a specific person-you-hard to "sell/give away" to another person with "them" going to an audi to "adjust it to them"-without incurring "service fees".

Most of us can't perform the necessary "adjustment" as we aren't audiologist.

Something to consider before trying to sell our hearing aids.

In the states you can buy other peoples hearing aids and get them adjusted to your own personal hearing needs. However, in Canada a hearing aid is seen as a medical device kind of like a prosthesis so you cannot sell your hearing aids in Canada another audi won't program it. I couldn't even give my old hearing aids to my grandfather.

Seems to me that if you bought the HA, then you can sell it and people will buy anything regardless. Bit believe there is a Club that you can donate ur HA to if you really would like to help someone who cannot afford a HA...same as for the Lions Club who help with Glasses here in Jacksonville.

I was told by more than one audiologist that you can't re-sell anyone's ha's here due to it being a personal medical product and they have to be bought through a professional. If you bring a set of hearing aids that isn't registered to the owner (each serial number for that hearing aid is registered to the person they're sold to) then the audiologist or hearing instrument specialist etc *in Canada* is not supposed to program them. Like I said...I couldn't even give my old aids to my grandfather because no audi would program them saying it isn't allowed.

Thanks Alicia.

hmmm it's stinks. I wonder if there actually exist a law that specifically says the hearing aid can not be re-sell, and more interesting - can not be re-programmed.
I want to see this particular law in writting.

Otherwise, I believe it's them fricking audi sellers who make us believe this,
and end up with more money by selling brand new hearing aids over and over again! grrrrr

its about the same as selling your personal viberator

First of all, it's a vibrator, second I beg to differ.

Vibrator is something like toothbrush - something very intimate that goes inside your body.
The hearing aid is not- only the ear mold is, but of course you do not use
somebody else ear mold, you make your own.

If you are particularly "icky", you can even buy new outer case for your 'new' used hearing aid - but imo that's completely unnecessary.
A good wipe of the exterior with a rubbing alcohol or other sanitizer would suffice.

It's no different than buying for example used cell phone.

That's so interesting how it's different in Canada than the US. Here in the US a HA is viewed by medical insurance companies as more of a "cosmetic" device than anything else, hence why it's not covered by most of them. :(

Do you have warrantly replace hearing aid? Canada I have replace on warrantly allow on , I speak audiology cuz i speak said they said issues damaage pretty bit cause on happened on pretty few inside,, I have already replace it cover

...so you can't afford a viberator? thats a shame isn't it? so you use old cell phone viberator as a subsitute?
