Just a reason that I rarely use my debit card outside my house.

If you use debit card in any places, regardless on how rare are you used, you could become victim of debit card/credit card theft.

Credit card has liability protection, if someone use your credit card to make unauthorized purchase so you can dispute the charge and you don't have to pay back.

Depending on banks, debit card could have liability protection, but you need to check if debit card has liability protection.

You need stop to be fear about anyone steal your debit card or credit card, so steal debit or credit card are very rare, only happened to me about twice after got first debit card in 2006, but I disputed the charge and didn't have to pay back.

Mark, give me your debit card
I will protect it

that's why America is finally starting to use this credit card with additional security (small square metal thing on left side of credit card). it's already been widely used in Canada and Europe. it's much more secured. plus - the customers do not give credit card to them. the employee has to come to you with a credit card swiper and do the whole thing in front of you. and then you enter your pin number. from what I was told - it's illegal for employee to take your card and process it without your presence.

Got a call from my bank awhile ago....asking me to come in as a debit purchase had tried to be made in NYC....they asked me when the last time I had been to NYC...and that was over 10 years ago....someone had tried to use my card for a $250.00 purchase at a Walmart in NYC....my bank declined it....(thank goodness!)

The bank rep gave me a few tips....not to use your card at small convenience stores, even gas stations....:hmm:....I no longer shop at 1 convenience store that I know who did this...but I've no proof...and I don't use my card at any small store either....Haven't had a problem since.

Yes it is. On the rare occasion I DO use it, I make sure it never leaves my presence, and I also make sure to use it at a reputable business, and not some mom and pop restaurant.

notice that most credit card leaks occur at "reputable business" rather than mom n' pop restaurants?

I have seen a trend of that happening, yes. Sad, really, that a dishonest employee will do anything to make or use a few extra bucks.

not with a credit card with additional security cuz you need to type in the pin number.

if a dishonest employee swiped a card to make a copy.... it won't work.

That's true. However, if you set up equipment at an ATM to record pin numbers and that stuff, then yeah, you could. There's a word for people like that-- what is that word? *snaps fingers thinking*
