There is old 'Appleseed' made in 1988 and it sucks badly. Now they remade a new movie based on popular Appleseed mangas wrote by Masamune Shirow (who created original Ghost in the Shell, Innocence, SAC and mangas). I already watched it two days ago and it rocks. They were using CG CEL-style, which is not bad... but animations and facial expressions are the best. The storyline is incredible as always, I found myself puzzled when I read the mangas and now I understand more right after watched this movie.
My synopsis:
The utopia city, Olympus created right after WWIII and other wars where controlled by bioriods, enhanced-genetic modified beings live along with humans. Nearly 50% of population in Olympus is bioriods, the being that have no emotions like love, hate, jealousy, etc... Bioriods often to be used in political positions due to their inability to feel the emotions so therefore they cannot feel the hatred toward any races or other countries. In other words, there will be no war. But unfortunately that in some high positions, humans feel that bioriods are taking their world and power away and plan to wage a war on bioriods. Bioriods also don't have the reproduction ability, in other words, they cannot produce any child(ren).
One bioriods group, '7 elders' suspects about humans and their bloodbath war plan, they sent the scouts to 'outside' to seek the elite warriors to defend them, that's where and how they found the key character in Appleseed, Deunan and bring her to Olympus. They also know that Deunan hold a key to solve Bioriod's specific problem, not war or human but other thing (go and watch the movie to find out). There is a superbly-super computer called, 'Gaia' who have the final decision for everything and control everything in Olympus. What is 'Appleseed' excatly? You will find out once you watch the movie.
