Hey, I've been trying to learn ASL for the past few years. I know some vocab and I've got the basics down, but I want to improve my conversational skills, especially receptive skills. Everyone tells me the best way to do this is to spend more time with Deaf people - with my schedule, that's pretty tough.

So I'm hoping I can find someone to help me out through videos. I've been going through videos on youtube and finding that I can understand many of them - or rather, I understand *parts* of many of them. If you're fluent in ASL and would be willing to help me figure out the parts that I don't understand, well . . . tell me what I can do for you in return! I've already got an offer up on AllDeaf to provide computer programming training, but if that's not your thing, maybe there's something else I can offer in return?

Thanks!

Todd

learning ASL

Todd, I am hearing also and have joined a local ASL group that meets every two weeks. I am going to my first meeting next week. I found it on Yahoo Groups, maybe there's one near where you live.

Also, the local colleges offer ASL classes, you should check them out.

Todd: Shoot me a message my way and link me to the videos you need help with and I'll try my best to help. :]

Have fun! I agree, that's a great way to meet people and learn. I was able to find a similar group that meets at a place and time that works with my schedule (quite a stroke of luck). I've been helping organize events and it has helped a lot.

The video idea is just another option. It may or may not help me, but I figure it's worth a try.

Awesome! Thanks deafmama78. I'll dig through some of the videos and email you in a bit.
