In 1999, the Maine Legislature established the Baxter Compensation
Authority (BCA) to manage claims of physical or sexual abuse that
happened at the Maine School for the Deaf or Governor Baxter School for
the Deaf.
The law that established the BCA says that we must try to contact
former students of either school who no longer live in Maine. As a part
of this national outreach, the BCA has produced the enclosed video tape
which explains the claim process.
We ask you to find anyone who went to either of Maine's schools for the
Deaf, and may want to file a claim for compensation, please have them
contact the BCA so that we may answer their questions and start their
claim. The deadline for claim application is March 30, 2006
If you have any questions about the BCA, please feel free to contact
me. Thank you in advance for your help with this outreach effort.
Sincerely,
