So, I'm hard of hearing, but I was raised in the world of hearing people. I started taking sign language at the beginning of the year, and I have started to want to learn more about deaf culture and maybe how to go about meeting people who are deaf so I can meet people who I can relate to. In my sign language class, no on was deaf (which was odd). Ideas?

How old are you? You could go to Deaf camp maybe or maybe transfer to Gally/NTID

So this is still happening! I ran into that twice back in the 1980's. I have forgotten 99.9% of what I did learn in those two beginning classes because I made no contacts to use it.

In Deaf culture, flicking the lights on and off are common to get people's attention.

Oh, that was a serious question? In Deaf culture, you are expected to tell everyone where you went to school, how many deaf family members, and quite a lot of information relating to who you are. On first meeting.

Oh yeah I hated it but it works. I hate it because some people continues to chat chat chat while the lights on and off nonstop. :dizzy: sometimes it happens, i always stand up and waves by getting their attentions. If its a small group, i ll do it if its a large number NOPE

Oh yeah I always do that because it helps me to know where or what they grow up. So i ll know what to make a conversation good with them. :D

backstabbing is common in deaf culture

Pretty common in any culture....

Oh, and I finally thought of something.....stomping one's foot on the floor or banging fists on tables to get another deaf person's attention without giving any thought to other people in the same room is common.....and highly irritating too....

well...deafies cant just go up to a hearing couple and say ' wanna swap, try my wife out and i try yours?' LOL

wife swapping is a feature of deaf culture too

Never heard of that here. Anyone heard of that in there Deaf communities in other states?

Most definitely, it is not a feature of Deaf culture.

but then, a deaf man might say, hell it doesnt matter if your wife is loud screaming while having an orgasm, and my wife does good oral you'd read her lips very well im sure.
