Any insurance can cover LASIK?

I had hard time to find eye doctor and discuss about LASIK but some people said none of insurance can cover it.
 
Yup! no insurance will cover Lasik. Why? They were fairly new technologies and insurance companies tend not to cover anyting that is new to them. They all wanted to know whats risk, and wheather it is worth their money or not.
 
It's nothing new because LASIK is started introduced in 1991.
 
Why you want Lasik? what's wrong with contact lens? I use contact lens now.. Acuvue and I am considering switching to other brand by Bausch & Lomb's new contact lens, I think called Pure vision. I have Astigmatism. I did consider Lasik but if I want it I would have to do one eye first then heal and recover then do 2nd eye but that means I can't work or whatever.. till my eye is completely healed and be allowed back to work. :dunno:
 
Don't argue with me, argue with insurance companies. They are the ones who makes the decision, other possible reason is that if it is viewed as cosmetic, then insurance companies won't cover a dime. Anyway, I know Lasik isn't new but rather "FAIRLY" new.
 
No insurance coverage for my laser surgery. Hubby got it for me as a surprise Christmas present.

LASIK is a multi-billion dollar industry. Because insurance does not usually cover Lasik, it's a free-for-all for ophthalmologists and optometrists, just like plastic surgery. The profits are huge, and prolific surgeons are now millionaires, some of them many times over. Optometrists once worried about losing patients after their LASIK procedures now do all of the post-op care. My OD took $1100 of the $4400 fee as his share, which exceeds the guidelines set forth by Medicare for optometric care of cataract patients; guidelines most doctors have extended to include refractive surgery. I was basically sold to the highest bidder--a doctor still early in the learning curve.

Some people can't wear contacts. I can't wear contacts. I have extremely dry eyes. I use special drops, artificial tears, and had all four punctal ducts cauterized shut but still my eyes are too dry for contacts.

After I had the laser surgery, for the first time in my life, I could drive without glasses, and I could swim in the ocean and see where I was. It's wonderful!

They don't do it that way anymore. They do both eyes at the same time.
You can go back to work the next day. Just wear strong sunglasses outside for a couple weeks, and use special eye drops.
 
I wish insurance covers lasik surgeries!

I am tired of wearing my glasses and contact lenses only make me look like Ive been smoking pot (red eyes) due to extreme sensitivity.

I joke with my girls that I will become one of extinct species wearing glasses :whistle:
 
regarding contact lens wasn't asking you I was asking the topic starter.

regarding lasik everyone is different. That's what I found out when I was researching about getting it last Jan. can we leave at it? thanks.

Excuse me, I had small benefits with contact lens or glasses because I had wear glasses for 2 years then switched into contact lens for 3 years then it's not 100% successful because both of glasses and contact lens gave me an headache, and I had took Advil almost everyday then it doesn't good. I just want be corrective vision and removes restrict from my driver license. I believe that LASIK can be up to around $1,000 or who knows.
 
ah headache I see.. haven't had that yet...

perhaps you can go see another eye doctor about that.. to find a way to ease your headaches causing from your eyewear.
 
Forget to said, contact lens are 50% less headache than glasses does but it need get in and off again, it can causes uncomfortable and dry eyes too.
 
I would wear contact lenses but a friend of mine wore contact lenses and they made her eyes detoriate so badly...I don't want that happen to my eyes.

that would be because of many factor like not washing hands. not cleaning/disinfecting the lens properly not cleaning the case properly or not replacing the case often..

if you follow the procedure properly as instructed then this should not happens.

There was a recall of specific solutions for cleaning the contact lens that has "moisture loc" made by Bausch & Lomb. http://bausch.com/us/vision/products/softcare/moistureloc_updates.jsp

Why are you switching to another brand? What was wrong with Acuvue? Acuvue should work with Astigmatism. I uses the Acuvue disposable contact lenses, replace every two weeks, It's much easlier to do. Where do you go to? I go to D.O.C.

It is depending on what type of contact lens prescription. Everyone experienced differently, it's all about finding the best lens for your eyes. With dry eye may require different contact lens. Talk to your provider where you go and get your glasses/contact lens. :thumb:
